WWE Tough Enough, February 12 Update

by Mike DeGeorge -- 02/12/2003
This week, Mike has updates on news stories and interviews, indy shows featuring a number of the former Tough Enough contestants, and perhaps a hint at an answer to the Bob Holly/Matt incident.

First off, my favorite show WWE Confidential aired a segment about the Tough Enough story that won’t die, Matt vs. Bob Holly. The piece really didn’t say anything we haven’t heard fifty times already except for this little tidbit from Big: He says that Matt was one of the favorites to win at the time, and “We had some questions in our minds about Matt, one of our biggest questions, was he really tough enough?” He also pointed out that he knew Bob would be working stiff.

Hmm… it’s been my theory from the beginning that the whole ‘situation’ was set up by the producers. Is this a confirmation of that theory?

TE3 winner Matt Cappotelli was the feature of a Rochester (NY) Democrat and Chronicle newspaper story. It’s mostly a “local boy makes good” story, with a few interesting insights.

Jonah conducted another online interview, this one at xtreme.themayhem.com. Pretty interesting, even if it does cover much the same information as TheWrestlerOnline’s interview from last week.

Speaking of Jonah, he teamed with TE2’s Danny to defeat Aron Stevens & Vik Dalishus at the World Wrestling Alliance card in Lynn, MA, on Friday. As I said before, if you’re in the Northeast and want to see these guys live, just keep your eyes open. They seem to be everywhere.

In other indy news, Hawk and Kenny teamed with “Shooting Star” to defeat American Wild Child, Street Style & Topgun Talwar at the Revolution Pro Wrestling event Saturday in City of Industry, CA, in front of 75 people. Thanks to the Pro Wrestling Observer site for the above two newsbits.

I also heard a rumor that TE2’s Hawk tried out for the new reality show, Are You Hot? I don’t know if he made it, and Lord knows I wouldn’t actually recommend that readers watch that trash (especially since it’s premiering against the Survivor opener), but I WILL keep an eye on the story.

Chris Nowinski was featured on ABC World News Tonight on Saturday, by far the highest-profile segment ever about Tough Enough. I didn’t catch it, but from what I read, it was about three minutes long and very respectful to Chris. Good thing, too.

Last, and certainly not least, make sure to watch the premier of Survivor: The Amazon Thursday night and cheer on our favorite Tough Enough 1 semi-final contestant, Daniel Lue!
