Star Search, February 26: Three Down, Five to Goby Kathy Taylor -- 02/28/2003
View Printable version of this article You know, this really is a terrible show. The format is bad, the host is awful, the judging is arbitrary, and a number of the performers are mediocre. The exception to the last part of that statement is the "Comedian" category. Mediocre is something those contestants would be lucky to achieve. So here goes: Guest Judge - Hillary Duff from Lizzie Maguire. I don't know who she is but she's 15 years old and perky as hell. In the Young Singer category, David is a soulful little 12-year-old from the Motown of the West, Utah. He didn't "oversing." I enjoyed him. Anna Maria is from the Bay Area and had a nice voice but was a little weak and showy. The better performer won.
For the Young Dancers, John was a break/street/hip-hop/whatever it's called style dancer and he was great. The audience loved it too. Naomi Judd was scratching her finger while she gave him a 3. Maybe if he was a clogger she'd have been impressed. Natasha and Bobby are classical dancers and they are great as well. But it was like comparing apples and well, prunes. They're both fruits but one isn't quite as exciting as the other. Street style won out over classical beauty:
They've moved the comedian category down in the rotation. I'm sure very few viewers can make it through these acts. Greg was horrifying. I can't say what he acted like because I will offend numerous people afflicted with various neurological and psychological problems. The silence was deafening. Robert was bad but low key. He won fair and square:
Adult Singer was a good category as both performers were good. However, Dreshan cried during his little "up close and personal." The camera actually followed the tear rolling down his check. It was a smart move on his part. It came down to tenths of points on the Internet vote and he won:
