Survivor: The Amazon – Vote Against Christy Spoils the Spoilers

Christy’s gone. Wow! As big a shock as it was to the casual viewer, what this has done to the spoiler community is even bigger! Due to the famous Chill One spoiler from the Survivor Sucks board, which has been reported on various Survivor sites across the net, a lot of us thought it was a done deal. Heidi was supposed to go this week, then Rob, leaving a final four of Christy (going out fourth), Butch (third), and Matt and Jenna at the end.

Briefly – the Chill One spoiler had most of the early boots correct (although not perfect order) with the final four being “the deaf girl, a man about 50, a well built guy with a tight haircut, and a girl named Jenna or Janna” This was before the season started and names were not known. This spoiler has been remarkably accurate until tonight. Pre-season he told us there was a deaf contestant who was a woman about 22 who would make it far. Age is close, Christy is 24.

There was also another widely believed spoiler about Heidi going out sixth that people found quite credible.

With Christy gone and Heidi still in the game, this turns those spoilers on their end. The Jenna-Matt final two has independent corroboration with the Vegas odds betting scandal, so assuming, for a moment, that this holds true what does the future hold for Rob, Heidi, and Butch? It’s appears it is once more anybody’s game. It could also debunk the Vegas odds spoiler as well. What if that wasn’t due to a CBS leak but instead was based on the Chill One spoiler? Dare I hope Jenna never sees final two? But that’s real Survivor, what does this mean to the spoiling community? A lot of people were positive we knew who was going tonight based on seemingly legit spoilers and were left stunned watching tonight’s tribal council. I think the accuracy of the spoiler up until now has left many with a misplaced sense of insider knowledge. The speculation that they were planted by Mark Burnett to mess with the spoiler community has its advocates. Personally, I don’t think so. I think any second and third hand information coming through an interpreter after the fact has to have some degree of faultiness inherent to begin with and that must be taken into consideration. There is a certain amount of anger from some who believed and gloating from those who remained skeptical in the spoiler community. It might behoove everyone to remember it’s just a game, and this is just one online aspect of the game to be taken with a grain of salt. At the end of the day someone causing you to be surprised by the outcome of a television show is not an act of betrayal.

I would have liked to have seen this debunked in another way. I would have liked the error to be Christy to have gone further than fourth place. I think Christy has been simply awesome and played the game against greater odds than anyone else out there. And no, I don’t mean her deafness... I think the far greater handicap was having to carve out her place and work around the immaturity and arrogance of two women, Heidi and Jenna, who are so enthralled with their deluded self-images that they couldn’t find it within themselves to be civil to a someone with whom they were living. Vote her out for strategy, okay, that’s part of the game. However, there is no excuse for the jr. high school style shunning to which they subjected Christy. A word about Christy’s final comments: It’s about time!! She expressed her disappointment in a way that was eloquent in its rawness and so preferable to the very politically correct comments we usually get: Here for the experience blah, blah, blah... I am such a threat yada, yada, yada – spoken merely to salve wounded egos, fooling no one.

I am no strategist, but the mistake Christy made, in my opinion, was in being too honest. She told Rob she wouldn’t know until she had the pen in her hand at tribal council and that it might be his name. The difference between what she did and what Alex did was that she acted out of integrity rather than arrogance. Had she committed to Rob to boot Heidi and committed to the girls to boot Rob (or whomever) she could have kept it to herself that she wouldn’t decide until tribal council. But maybe that wouldn’t have worked. The way these guys out their plans and each other it might’ve been too risky. It was sad to see her go, but remarkable she managed to do as well as she did given the tribe she had to work with. I hate that she was the sacrifice that opened our eyes to the frailty of spoilers but it doesn’t change the fact that this is by far the best season of Survivor ever. I hope it changes the course of the series so perhaps Pagonging will be a thing of the past. Incidentally, I know it is apropos of nothing, but could someone tell Jenna that smirking is not attractive on anyone? Thanks.

Will I still follow the spoilers? Yep. To me it adds an extra element to the enjoyment of the show. Glad I didn’t make book on it though.
