WWE Tough Enough May 6 Update: Matt and John in OVW, Scott Signs Autographs, TE4 Rumors, and More!by Mike DeGeorge -- 05/06/2003
View Printable version of this article Just a few weeks ago I wanted to do a Tough Enough update and couldn't find enough news. Then, the news started coming in fast and furious and I couldn't find the time to do a proper update! So I apologize right off the bat to the many readers who have emailed me with news and asking when the next update will be. I've finally come through, and I'll make every effort to write these updates on a more regular schedule in the future. Before I begin, I wanted to make sure to remind you to catch TE1 semi-finalist Daniel Lue in the Survivor reunion show airing immediately after the finale on CBS, Sunday, May 11. And watch for RealityNewsOnline editor David Bloomberg there, too - though he'll probably be a bit more difficult to spot in the audience rather than on the stage. In the biggest bit of news this past month, TE3 winners Matt and John were spotted in the crowd (and shown on camera) at the TV show airing April 26. I had assumed that they had made their way to Louisville, but since I had not heard anything for sure, I could not confirm it. OVW usually keeps their new wrestlers under wraps for a while before debuting them, so I do not expect Matt or John to actually make their wrestling debut for a few weeks, at least. When it happens, I'll be here to tell you about it. By the way, WWE Superstar Bradshaw (currently in OVW with APA partner Farrooqq) had good things to say about Matt and John in his recent column at WWE.com. This is from his famous column defending HHH and ripping internet writers, so instead of linking I will just quote the relevant passage: "By the way, Matt and John from Tough Enough have shown good work ethic so far in OVW. Whether they make it or not still has to be seen, but hard work will certainly do nothing but help their chances. They both seem like good young guys." In other OVW news, Matt wrestled in the biggest match of his career thus far, losing to Kane via chokeslam at the season opening Six Flags Summer Sizzler event on April 11. After the match, Matt was attacked by the members of Bolin $ervices (who, you'll recall, have been trying to "recruit" Matt into their organization). Kane made the save, and the two shook hands in a show of respect. You can view pictures of the match at ovwrestling.com, under the "news" section. The next OVW Summer Sizzler Series event will be at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom in Louisville on May 30. No matches have been announced, but I am sure Matt will play a prominent role as his angle with Bolin $ervices has been the main focus of recent shows. In fact, his match was the main event of the April 5th TV show. It ended when Matt threw Bolin's charges out of the ring, took Jerome Crony's valet, Nurse Lulu (who happens to be Nidia's sister, by the way), over his knee and spanked her. Oh, the life of a WWE Superstar. In other news, our favorite TE3 troublemaker, Scott Chong, has been steadily continuing his career. He appeared as the special guest at a recent VCW show. Since Virginia requires a wrestling license to compete, Scott was placed into an autograph session with fellow special guests and wrestling legends Bobby Eaton and The Barbarian. I'll let Scott himself tell you about his experience: "I was really honored that they put me with them during the signing as I was with legends! They were both really nice. I talked with Eaton briefly, we just asked each other simple questions like where you from and stuff like that. During the signing, Barbarian was the first and then people would go to Eaton and then me, and Barbarian would refer to me as 'New Generation.' He tell people 'make sure you go see New Generation' while pointing to me. I was really humbled by that, I couldn't believe that he was putting me over." Scott also told me that at one point during the main event, the crowd started to chant for him. It appears that Scott is very over with the Virginia Championship Wrestling crowd! Scott also appeared as the guest timekeeper at the April 26th Ring of Honor show in the Pittsburgh area. After "The Carnage Crew" won their match, they attacked Scott at ringside and left him laying in the ring. Any promoters interested in booking TE3's Scott Chong for an appearance can email me (mikmaria@earthlink.net) and I will forward it to Scott. Tough Enough trainer Al Snow will be taking over the reins of WWE Heat soon, taking over for the "fired" Lita. I enjoyed his commentary when he co-hosted with Michael Cole a few years ago, so I look forward to seeing him. View Printable version of this article |
