WWE Tough Enough May 29 Update: The Future of Tough Enough and Some of Its Participantsby Mike DeGeorge -- 05/29/2003
View Printable version of this article Regular readers will remember that in my last update, I refuted the story being reported all over the net that Tough Enough was dead. I've since heard from a very credible source confirming what I reported. But to clarify, this time taking my information from my source: MTV and WWE have decided to end their arrangement with each other in regards to Tough Enough. There were no arguments, no slammed doors, and no hard feelings. MTV merely wants to develop their own shows as opposed to using outside production companies. This, of course, means no more Tough Enough on MTV. That much was reported on other sites, but every other site made the immediate assumption that this meant Tough Enough was dead. Not so. WWE has been in "serious discussions" with other networks on continuing the show in its current form or perhaps a new hybrid form. These discussions are ongoing, and nothing has been officially decided. This just goes to show, you shouldn't put any stock in these cut-and-paste "news" sites that don't do any research. If you want to know what is going on in reality television, THIS is the place to check. It's not Reality News if it's not on RealityNewsOnline. If you are interested in seeing a new season of Tough Enough, go to www.SpikeTV.com (TNN is changing their name AGAIN next month to Spike TV). Spike TV is asking viewers what they want to see on the "new" network, so if you want Tough Enough, tell them so! In other news, TE3's Matt and John and TE2's Matt continue their progress in Ohio Valley Wrestling in Louisville, the WWE's "training ground" for new wrestlers. Matt and John have yet to wrestle an actual match, but they have been spotted at various events and I expect them to make their in-ring debuts shortly. Matt Morgan continues to impress with his ongoing program against Bolin $ervices, and while those in Louisville hope Matt sticks around for a good long time, everyone who sees him has to admit that it's just a matter of time before he is called up to the WWE. Speaking of Matt Morgan, I mentioned before that he had the biggest match of his career against Kane at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom on April 11th. For the many of us who weren't able to make it to Louisville for the event, OVW is releasing the full card on home video! It's only available through the OVW website. Go to www.ovwrestling.com, click on "Shop OVW" and then "Videos." This tape also includes our favorite, Harvard Chris Nowinski, against Nova. Remember, the next OVW Summer Sizzler series event will be held at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom in Louisville on Friday, May 30th. We still have not received word of any matches, but I would assume that Matt Morgan will be in a featured match, and most likely Dale Sherman will be there to provide a report for all of us! Linda Miles and Jackie Gayda continue their somewhat underwhelming runs at OVW. Jackie's most recent contribution was screwing up a low blow at the most recent TV taping as the valet for Rob Conway. As for Linda, her most recent match teaming with Gail Kim vs. Molly Holly and Passion did not exactly receive rave reviews. OVW announcer Jim Cornette commented during the match: "Right about now Jim Ross would be talking about bowling shoes," referring to JR famously describing bad matches as "bowling shoe ugly." The Harvard Crimson newspaper posted an article about one of their most famous alums, the aforementioned Chris Nowinski. He talks quite a bit about his time in the Tough Enough house, his reaction to not winning, and more, but he somehow neglects to mention his confrontation with a smart-ass internet reporter at the TE3 finale. Ah well, it's a good article anyway, which you can read here. Our favorite TE3 miscreant, Scott Chong, will join fellow contestants Justin and Jonah at the "Hardkore Championship Wrestling" event in Davie, Florida on June 21. You can find more information at http://www.hardkore.web1000.com. Finally, Stuff Magazine recently had an interview with Kelsey Grammar, in which he discussed why he refused to allow the Tough Enough 3 production crew to film in his neighborhood. He claims he was fine with it until he found out they had requested "hundreds of parking spaces" on the street, so he pulled the plug. He also claimed he was told there would be 23 kids sleeping in the house. It sounds like someone didn't bother to get the facts straight before causing problems. Mike DeGeorge, an accountant from St. Louis, has never particularly liked Kelsey Grammar. You can email him (Mike, not Kelsey… and what kind of a geek-ass name is Kelsey, anyway?) at mikmaria@earthlink.net.
