‘For Love or Money’ Paige Not So Pureby David Bloomberg -- 06/20/2003
View Printable version of this article Just when we thought we had all the roles figured out on For Love or Money, Paige has to go and mess it up for us. Well, technically she messed it up two years ago, when she was pulled over no less than three times for a combination of drunken driving, weaving, driving on a suspended license, and the like. Yes, The Smoking Gun is at it again. They released the information yesterday, including some wonderful mug shots that I’m sure Paige is thrilled are now available for public view. So, what did she do? Well, the first time was February 2001, when she passed a cop on the side of the road. She was driving along with a flat tire and blew through a tollbooth. She weaved along, going 30 in a 55 zone (at least she wasn’t speeding) while the cop chased her, lights-a-flashing and all. She didn’t stop, though, until the cop got her attention by pulling alongside of her. When he talked to her, he noticed slurred speech and the smell of alcohol. Because Paige is pure and honest, when the cop asked if she’d been drinking, she said, “A whole lot.” She also admitted to using a fake ID to get the alcohol (since she’s only 21 now, she sure wasn’t at the time). As if there was any doubt, the officer noted in his report that Paige failed eight of the nine clues of intoxication. Ouch. Ah, but that was just the beginning. In May, she was picked up again for drunk driving! And then in July, she was stopped for driving with a suspended license. She ended up getting some jail time and probation, though it looks like the jail was suspended in at least one of the cases (the other was three days, but it’s unclear if she actually had to serve it or not). Perhaps she is doing the show – being locked in a house with other women and Rob – as a part of the sentence and that’s why she’s so happy about it, because she could have been in prison instead. Or maybe she’s just looking to land a lawyer so she can cut down on her future legal bills. Here Rob has been saying that she’s too young for him. Yet she has almost as many legal problems under her belt as he does. Indeed, you have to wonder if the guy who did the great background check on Rob was also responsible for hers. So this brings up the issue: Did he blow it and not find any of the three arrests? Or did he find it and the producers and NBC just didn’t care? Either way, it’s rather disturbing. Does it strike anybody else as strange that the show’s villain, Kelly, might be the best person out of everybody outside the show? Or maybe The Smoking Gun just hasn’t gotten around to her yet… David Bloomberg is the Editor of RealityNewsOnline, and can be reached at rno@pobox.com.
