American Juniors, June 25: ...And Then There Were 10by Sting7 -- 06/26/2003
View Printable version of this article Last night, the second ten out of twenty performers took their shots front of judges and America. The performances were a bit dicier last night which made predicting the advancees a bit easier. I said the five who should advance were: Lucy Hale Tori Thompson Chantel Kohl Taylor Thompson Brennan Hillard I said the five who would advance were: Tori Thompson Taylor Thompson Lucy Hale Chantel Kohl Canyon Grove There’s Gladys Knight! Where’s Ryan? He can’t make it tonight. Gladys also tells us her “velvet teddy bear” Ruben Studdard will be in attendance tonight! Intro the judges, the incumbent Deborah Gibson and the guest, Nick Carter. She intros the finalists. Then, she intros last week’s winners, beaming like a proud mama. We get a recap of last night’s performances, which you can read about in detail here. Last night’s kids perform “Put A Little Love In Your Heart.” (And it looks like Jordan is blonder than just last night!) Back on the bench, Gladys reads a brief summary of each contestant’s critiques (only the good stuff). Gladys is doing a nice job for a sub! Now for the results: First, Tori Thompson! (Highest number of votes too!) Not at all surprised. Jordan McCoy! Okay, but no more squeaking! Chantel Kohl! I approve! Lucy Hale! Very deserving, the strongest voice of the night. There‘s only one more spot (Taylor Thompson looks horrified! Tori Thompson is crying in Chantel’s arms. What if her sister doesn’t make it? That will be devastating! Could Canyon’s heartthrob looks pull it off?) Gladys asks Deborah if she is surprised by the results. Deborah says two of the people who advanced, she thought would be vying for the fifth spot. She adds that anybody on the stage deserves to be in the group. Nick says if the kids don’t make it, there were on television, so they are already stars. Please, don’t ask him back. Gladys says she wants to end the suffering, so she calls security to drag Nick Carter off the set. Just kidding. The remaining six have to wait just a little longer. It’s time for the reigning American Idol, Ruben Studdard, singing “Flying Without Wings.” He’s performs “Wings” like he has finally gotten all the way comfortable with the very subtle crescendo! It’s his best performance to date. Gladys asks if Taylor Thompson is going to join her sister? Poor Taylor looks like her life hangs in the balance! “Well, the answer is... yes!“ She made it! Tori dashes across the stage like a blue streak to hug, and if you are aren’t moved by that, consider yourself soulless. The Thompson parents are completely beside themselves! And now, we have a Top Ten, they are: Morgan Burke Chauncey Matthews A.J. Melendez Kaitlyn Tarver Danielle White Jordan McCoy Lucy Hale Chantel Kohl Tori Thompson Taylor Thompson The girls swept the boys tonight, which means that there are seven girl finalists and three boys. Will this make an advantage for the boys, since they will immediately stand out? Next week, our votes are to fill the first seat in the group. The pressure will be on, who can stand up to it? Who will crack? We shall see next week! Sting7 can be reached at stingseven@yahoo.com. Be sure to sign up for our e-mail update so you can stay informed about new articles on the site!
