For Love or Money 2: The "Beer Goggle" Effect

by Alima Ravenscroft -- 07/29/2003
Alima discusses the third episode of For Love or Money 2, pointing out that the guys keep getting better looking to her (especially Wade, at right), but a few of the things from this episode were familiar-looking, as they seemed straight out of the original series, which she was on.

I don’t know what it is, but with each episode, the For Love or Money 2 boys keep getting better looking. I am totally crushing on Wade at this point. I almost hope that he isn’t the one who makes it to the end, because then we’d still have a chance. Well... then of course, he’d probably expect me to move back to Texas, which I’m just not willing to do right now at this point in my life. So... sorry, Wade, it may not work out after all.

When I signed up for the original For Love or Money, I was guaranteed a chance at some spectacular dates. I’m sure the boys from FLoM 2 were promised the same. But I just wasn’t impressed by the date settings of a ropes course and an amusement park. However, I have done a ropes course before, and it does in fact make you feel safer and more trusting of the people you do it with. On this date, Erin was forced to trust the man opposite her and lean on him for support. I think this challenge presented a preview of how a future relationship could be with the person she went through it with. Greg didn’t take as much control of the situation as he probably should have. Women want a man to be strong and confident and make them feel safe. Greg seemed a bit unsure of himself with the rope challenge, which clearly disappointed Erin. I haven’t forgotten his chivalrous act from last week’s episode, so he’s not completely on the "bad" list.

However, Chad V. was the "rescuer" this episode. Erin seemed a bit terrified on the log activity, so he walked straight across the log to where she was, and I let out an "Awww... how sweet." I still am crushing on this guy too. I have a feeling that he and Wade will make it pretty far on the show, and I would not be surprised if one of them was the last guy standing.

Then there was the single date that Wade had won at a hand of blackjack. (Nothing like winning a card game for the opportunity to have a date alone with a woman.) The poor thing looked like wardrobe gave him the same white tux that Rob had worn on our show! I couldn’t get past that, but I tried not to hold that against Wade. (After all, he is in my top two!) However, not only was that tux "borrowed" from our show, but the car that Erin and he rode in to their date looked like the SAME one that Rob and Kelly took to their bowling date (the one in which they kissed at every red light). The only difference is that they didn’t let Wade drive... some hired driver was in charge of taking them to the Hollywood Bowl.

Call me sports-illiterate, but when they showed the sign for the "Hollywood Bowl," I thought it was a football stadium, so I was surprised when it was only an outdoor theatre. The scenery looked very familiar, and I had a flashback of ABC’s The Bachelor, with Helene and Aaron. I’m wondering if that was the same place that they had their date! They should have hired a string quartet, instead of a solo singer... I thought that was kind of weird, and the music didn’t even seem romantic. But, Wade and Erin seemed to have a lot of chemistry. CRAP! Wade is a hopeless romantic and pretty much an open book – we’d get along just fine! Unfortunately, he mentioned in this episode that he’s beginning to "smell the money"... so maybe the romantic side of Wade is just an act.

The last date was the "spectacular date" to an amusement park. Granted, it was beautiful sitting right next to the ocean, but come on! It’s an AMUSEMENT PARK – what’s romantic about that!? I wasn’t too impressed with this group date, except when they were playing the various games and came to the football one. Thomas and Chad F. both missed, and then it was Eric’s turn. I honestly didn’t think he’d make it either, but was pleasantly surprised when he hit the target head on. It definitely seemed to impress Erin and she won the 49ers stuffed animal, which is a great souvenir to walk away with from this date.

I can’t believe they only had two people kicked off tonight. I wish our show would have been stretched out this long! For some reason, I predicted that Thomas and Greg were going to be eliminated this episode. However, I was only correct about Thomas. Chad F. was actually eliminated because Erin said that they were too similar. You know that there is a "but" when so many nice things are being said about you... that’s just how it happens on here. If it’s short and sweet, you are probably staying. If it’s long-winded and SUPER sweet, you are getting kicked off.

They showed previews for the upcoming episodes, and I got so excited. First of all, they are going to offer one of the guys cash if they walk away right then, and someone takes it and leaves!! I’m wondering two things: how much and who took it?! Also, two weeks from now, Rob is coming back. A second chance at love or a chance at revenge? Guess we’ll have to watch to see which it turns out to be.
