American Juniors, July 30: I Gotta Have Some of Your Attention!

by Sting7 -- 07/31/2003
Morgan Burke can't buy a break. The judges always give him great critiques, which he deserves, but America just won't budge. Last night, he hit a personal best! Will it be enough to get him in the band?

There are just two spots left, and one of them was up for grabs last night! Most kids hit their personal bests! Specifically, Katelyn Tarver, who may be getting comfortable a little too late. Underdog favorite Danielle White knocked one out of the park, and there was a lot of buzz about Chantel Kohl and Lucy Hale! Who gets seat number four?

After last night’s performances, I said the Top Three should be:

1. Danielle White

2. Morgan Burke

3. A. J. Melendez

And I predicted the Top Three would be:

1. Chantel Kohl

2. A.J. Melendez

3. Danielle White

I said the fourth member of the band will be.... Danielle White!

To begin tonight, Ryan introduces Chauncey Matthews and Taylor and Tori Thompson, your erstwhile band!

Ryan goes into an overlong boy/girl dissertation. He also says Monica will be performing.

Intro this week’s judges: Deborah Gibson, Monica, and Gladys Knight.

We get a recap of last night’s performances, which you can read about in detail here.

Keeping with 1980, the kids perform Billy Joel’s “It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me.” Everybody got a lead, and it was probably the best group number of the season.

Ryan tells us the auditions for American Idol 3 start this weekend at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA! Auditions will also be held in Houston, Atlanta, New York City, and, for the first time, Hawaii.

Next week Simon Cowell will be appearing, via satellite, but appearing.

Ryan calls the top three vote-getters up.

Now for the results:

Jordan McCoy - not in the top 3

A.J. Melendez - in the top 3!!

Morgan Burke - not in the top 3

Katelyn Tarver - not in the Top 3

Lucy Hale - in the Top 3!

Chantel and Danielle are left. Danielle is not in the Top 3 (what a crime!) But, Chantel is!

Monica, did America get it right? She thinks so, but she felt bad because everybody was great, it’s rough! Deborah says this week it could have been anyone, everyone was so on last night, but America decided. Gladys says they are all so great, they have improved, and we can’t lose. Sting7 says that Danielle got ignored again and it’s just unfair. Morgan Burke will rock you! Believe you me. I wasn’t as blown away by Chantel and Lucy last night, but at this stage in the game, it’s about fan base. Both ladies have built a following with solid performances, I can’t really argue with their placements.

Monica performs her hit, “So Gone.” Monica has pipes for sure, but this song just never grew on me like it did with the rest of the free world.

Ryan says it’s time for the bad news. Someone is headed back to the “couch.” It is... A.J. Melendez.

It’s down to Lucy and Chantel. Go figure. I’d have to give the nod to Chantel since there is virtually a whole state voting for her. With those pesky Thompson girls out of the way and masterful Chauncey already victorious, I’m betting the door is open for her and her public relations campaign to rule.

Ryan says... the fourth member of the band... is... BOMP BOMP (Fame, I do miss you! I can‘t believe it. Harlemm Lee, check him out! Clay? Ruben? Company is coming!)... Lucy Hale! She’s shocked! I’m shocked! Daddy Kohl does his best not to look disappointed.

Lucy Hale performs a shakey “Call Me” and Chantel must be wondering why that didn’t happen last night. She’s excited, poor thing.

There is just one more week, the finale. Will Chantel break her streak of seconds? Will Danielle get noticed? Can Morgan Burke pull out the performance of his young life?

Let’s find out next Tuesday!
