For Love or Money 2, Episode 5: Hanging on the Telephoneby Betsy Wasser, with Kelly Ford -- 08/13/2003
View Printable version of this article Last week on For Love or Money 2, all of the guys but Wade went on double dates with Erin. Chad and Eric both kissed her. Eric had a solo date with Erin and was so full of cheesy lines he probably turned into fondue when he got in the hot tub. The guys got the chance to quit the game for $10,000, and Vic took it. Imagine his surprise when Erin told him she wasn‘t planning to eliminate him! Eric, Greg, Wade, and Chad remain. Who will be sent home next? It’s morning and all of the men are still snuggly in bed when Jordan arrives bearing four cellphones. He tells them that Erin will be going on four dates that day, but that she can choose to go on more than one date per guy, so there is no guarantee they’ll all get dates. In half an hour, Erin will call one of the guys on his new cellphone to ask him out on her first date of the day. Eric feels that one-on-one time with Erin is crucial. He needs to talk to her because he is afraid that she’ll take his comment from the last elimination about selling your soul for money as “an indictment on Vic.” Wade hopes he gets the first date because if the guy on the first date plays his cards right, “He could take the whole day from the other guys in the house.” Chad says that the guys are getting more competitive. Erin says that she wants to have fun and is open to the idea of extending the dates if they go well. She hopes that the $10,000 bribe will give her an opening to explore the men’s motives. Ring, ring! Wade answers the phone in his hand, only to hear Erin ask for Chad. Oops - they accidentally swapped phones. Erin asks Chad to join her for the first date. In an interview, Erin says that she thinks Chad is a wild card as far as the money goes. She doesn’t know if he’d choose her or not. I think Chad looks great in his black sweater, jeans, and black baseball cap. Kelly thinks so too. She says, “Damn, he just looks better and better every time I see him! He has style and definitely knows how to pull it off.” In the limo ride over, Chad tells Erin, “I just want you to know that I do have feelings for you.” They head to an ice skating rink for their first date. I expect them to skate around the rink holding hands, but no. Instead, Erin dons hockey equipment. Kelly is amused, saying, “I did love how Chad tried to cop a feel when he was bending over to assist Erin with her goalie gear.” Erin also thinks it’s cute. Chad shoots pucks at Erin and she tries to stop them. It doesn’t look like a fun date. Kelly points out, “What’s with Erin being the goalie? Chad was shooting pucks at her, but she doesn’t even have a go at him.” The two of them skate over to a table for some hot drinks and pastries. Chad suspects something is up with Erin, saying, “For some reason I have in my head that she is playing a game with me. You can feel it. When I look into her eyes and she looks into mine, I can actually tell what she is thinking.” Wow, very observant. Erin says, “I felt like a couple when I was with Chad.” Chad proposes a toast: “To meeting someone who’s very special under weird circumstances.” Erin laughs. Chad wishes he could tell her about the money. Erin says she’s not sure what his motives are. Then things get awkward - it’s time for Erin to call her next date. Chad is cool about it and says that he understands that she’s dating other guys. Back at the mansion, Greg, Wade, and Eric sit by their phones. Kelly says, “That cellphone thing was totally cheesy. The boys were sitting on the edge the entire time. I guarantee you that the producers made them all wait downstairs on the couch, anxiously awaiting that phone to ring.” I say good. Make them suffer! How many times have we women complained that guys say they’re going to call and then they don’t? How does it feel guys, huh? It sucks, doesn’t it? Eric seems to especially feel the pain. Nervously playing with his ring, he says, “It’s a terrible burden. Terrible.” Yeah, it’s tragic all right. The phone rings. One of the guys is about to be very happy. It’s Chad! Erin has called him even though he’s sitting right next to her. Back at the house, the guys have noted that time’s up, and Erin hasn’t called. Wade is cute, saying, “I’m gonna give her until 2 after. And if after 2 after she hasn’t called, I’m gonna give her until 3 after.” Erin and Chad take the limo to the next date. They get very cozy in the limo and kiss again. Erin says she wants Chad to trust her more. Their date is a trip to the arboretum. They take a paddleboat ride, then find a wishing well. Erin wishes she could tell Chad about the money and about all of her secrets. Chad wishes he could tell Erin about the money. Looks like they are of one mind. The two of them share a romantic picnic lunch. Chad tells Erin that she’s gorgeous, cool, and down to earth. Erin says in an interview that she’s having such a good time that she’s tempted to keep Chad all day. People, I think we are seeing a real love connection here. They really seem to like each other and are having a great time together. Kelly thinks so, too. She says, “They definitely have a strong affinity for each other, which makes me feel like he might be the last one standing. Erin does have qualms about him, a hesitance he might pick the money over her, as Erin ultimately did to Rob. But, on the other hand, Rob and Erin never seemed to have as strong a connection as do Chad and Erin.” I really hope Chad is the one Erin picks. If she does, she won’t be choosing him just because he’s safe. She’ll be taking a leap of faith that he cares about her, too. I think if she does, she’ll walk away with two million bucks and a really great guy. Back at the mansion, it’s time for the next phone call. The men all fret about it. Eric says in an interview that he hopes she’s not calling him because she already knows that he likes her and doesn’t need to spend more time with him. He admits, “It’s total self-delusion.” Eric especially doesn’t want Chad to get another date, saying, “I think Chad is playing a game. Chad is playing to win, and I’m playing for Erin.” That’s interesting, because I think the exact opposite. Wade stares at his phone, willing it to ring. He says, “It completely sucks staring at a phone that’s not ringing.” Yeah, it does suck, doesn’t it men? Waiting by the phone, when he said he’d call! Oh, sorry. Ranting again. It’s important to Wade that Erin call him, since he didn’t get to go on the last round of dates and, “I kind of don’t want her to forget who I am!” Erin hasn’t forgotten - Wade’s phone rings, and she asks him to come on the next date.
