Paradise Hotel: Catching Up

by Anne Rogers -- 08/27/2003
We’ve fallen a little behind on Paradise Hotel, so it’s time to catch up since our last recap! There have been several people coming and going, plus the introduction of the King and Queen of Paradise. As the “Originals” battle the “News” like Dave and Tara (right), who will stick around and make it one step closer to being the last couple in Paradise Hotel?

We’ve missed coverage of a couple weeks of Paradise Hotel here at RealityNewsOnline, so let’s catch ourselves up.

This August on Paradise Hotel, we've seen the battle lines get sharply drawn between the “Originals” and the “News,” starting with the ouster of Zack by Keith, which causes Amy to tell him that she'll see to it that his life at Paradise will be a living hell. After Zack leaves Paradise, the Original girls (Toni, Kristin, and Amy) feel that they have enough Original guys on their side (Scott, Alex, and possibly Beau) to keep them at Paradise and are hopeful that Charla will crack under the pressure of the game. At the next roommate selection, Holly chooses Scott, Tara picks Dave, and Kristin goes to Alex. Toni, who knows that her move will get her kicked out, goes to Keith and Amy goes to Beau, leaving Charla with only one choice, if she wants to stay – to choose Keith, thus evicting Toni from the game. The sides are even for the first time, with as many New guests as Originals.

Another newcomer arrives in Paradise – Tom and his stuffed monkey, Smokey. Everyone remembers Tom from several weeks before, when he and Dave competed to come to Paradise. Tom, whose behavior in the studio was so obnoxious that the guests chose Dave over him, arrives at Paradise without any competition. Everyone wants to know who Tom will pick as his roommate; Dave suggests that he pick Holly, and Keith and Dave tell him that the Originals will always stick together. Tom's choice won't send a guy home, but it will force a guy to live in the single room until the next roommate selection. Tom chooses Holly and sends Scott to live in the single.

The stakes become more tangible – actual Paradise dollars, 5000 of them, are given to all the guests for Casino Night. The guy with the most money at the end of Casino Night will not be sent home, and he will have his choice of roommates and the power to send one of the other guys home. Charla gives her money to Dave right up front; Alex decides that instead of trying to win, he'll simply steal chips or cheat; Kristin is in on it too. The women have until the next day to hand their money to any guy they want, and the scheming and conspiring about who should be evicted heats up.

Dave convinces just about everyone that he'll do the right thing, and collects the most money from the guests and, with it, the power to evict one of the guys – should it be Alex, his rival who he wants gone? Or his friend Beau, which will infuriate Amy and make the other guests happy? But before Dave chooses, the rest of the guys must select a roommate. Alex picks Kristin, Tom and Beau choose Amy, Scott goes for Holly, and Keith picks Charla. Amy has to narrow it down to just one guy; Beau's the one, making Tom room with Tara. Now, it's up to Dave: if he picks Kristin, Alex will go; if he picks Amy, Beau is gone. Dave pauses, everyone sweats, and finally he chooses Amy, sending Beau home, as he tells everyone that they're pathetic losers and checks out of Paradise forever.

It's time for another female guest to arrive. This time host Amanda brings two previous contestants to Paradise, Desiree (who lost to Kavita) and Lauren (who lost to Tara). The women go upstairs, but watch the guys interact with the contestants from a monitor – this time, the guys should know that the women can hear and see them! The women have to choose the guest this time, and they pick Desiree.

Desiree gets to choose her roommate, sending one of the girls to live in the single. Most of the guests think she'll pick Keith, but she ends up choosing Tom. The next twist in Paradise is to choose a King and Queen of Paradise, with all the perks that come with being royalty. The Originals and the News nominate a guy and a girl to compete for the title of King and Queen: It's Alex and Dave for potential King, and Amy and Tara for potential Queen, and they must spend the day competing and campaigning.

After the swimsuit competition, the guests assemble for the debate. Dave has prepped Keith with some questions, and promises that if he is elected King, he will take everyone's opinions into consideration. Keith confronts Alex about the cheating at Casino night, and Alex fesses up but says that no one had a problem with it and that everyone was perfectly happy to take his money when they needed to get Beau out. Alex promises that his reign won't be about the Originals and the News, but about respect and scary levels of fun.

The votes are cast, with Alex and Amy surprisingly both voting for Tara for Queen. At the Paradise Disco, host Amanda crowns Dave and Tara the King and Queen of Paradise. To the guests' surprise, the next night will be the roommate selection, and one of the girls will be going home.

Right before the selection, Amy goes to Tara and Dave and tells them she's unhappy and wants to go home; she's ready to leave and begs them to send her out of Paradise forever. At the selection, host Amanda tells everyone that the King and Queen will be rooming together for the next week and not only will they get to choose who stays and who goes, but they also get to pair up the guests as they see fit! The King and Queen get 15 minutes to discuss it, and quickly come to their decision: Tom and Desiree, Keith and Holly, and Alex and Charla will be roommates and are safe from eviction. Scott, Amy, and Kristin are left; Amy's smug because she's sure that, finally, she'll be able to go home. Against her wishes, Dave and Tara evict Kristin – as Tara points out to Dave, Kristin's a cheat and a liar, so she's out. Amy goes ballistic; it was supposed to be her! Amy's so disgusted that she says she'd leave anyway, sacrificing herself for Kristin. Host Amanda says that there will be no sacrifice; she's free to leave Paradise, but Kristin will not be saved by Amy's actions. Amy goes back and forth and finally decides to stay in Paradise. As Kristin checks out of Paradise, she says that they were smart in getting rid of her.

Next time, the girls get the power to send one of the existing guys home and can grant one of the guys immunity from eviction, and there's another Pandora's Box question and answer session. There won't be any more guests invited to Paradise, and soon there will be just one couple who emerge as the ultimate winners of Paradise Hotel.
