Background Information Found on New Survivor Contestant Andrew Savage

by David Bloomberg -- 08/28/2003
CBS announced the new Survivor contestants this morning, and RealityNewsOnline immediately went to work. While the official bio provided a bit of information on Andrew Savage, we found out some more.

This morning, CBS presented to us the contestants of Survivor: Pearl Islands. One of the contestants, Andrew M. Savage (the M. stands for “MacFarlane”) of the Morgan Tribe, immediately caught my eye as somebody to watch. The CBS official bio says the 40-year-old, “is currently employed as an intellectual property attorney at a major Chicago law firm.”

RealityNewsOnline has determined that the law firm in question is Wildman Harrold, and he is not merely employed there, but has been a partner of the over-200-person firm since March of 2002. His area of practice is also not limited to intellectual property, but also covers the areas of information technology and entertainment law! In fact, he represents clients in Internet matters such as website development, licensing, e-commerce, copyright, trademark, etc. Hmmm. Perhaps when the show is over we should contact him to license out RealityNewsOnline!

He also served at one time or another as in-house counsel to Studious USA, which is a subsidiary of USA Networks, with the law firm, The Entertainment and Intellectual Property Group, and as the attorney for Jerry Springer’s, Sally Jesse Raphael’s, and Maury Povich’s talk shows.

His official CBS bio notes that he is married and has two children. In addition, he earned a J.D. from the University of Cincinnati. Not mentioned is that he also attended the University of Galway, in Ireland, and Hamilton College in New York. He is a member of the Urban Morgan Institute for Human Rights, which publishes The Human Rights Quarterly. This follows along the same path as some of the official stuff in his bio about his hero being Nelson Mandela. He is also a member of the American, Chicago, Illinois, New York, Hawaii, and Ohio Bar Associations.

At age 40, Andrew is the second oldest on his tribe, third oldest overall in the game. But he looks athletic and says in his CBS bio that he enjoys rugby and cross-training, so I doubt the age issue will play any role in terms of physically being able to handle the game. The real question is whether he will mesh well with the mostly twenty-somethings in the rest of his tribe.

Time will tell, but one thing is for certain – you know he read the fine print on the Survivor contract!

If you haven’t already, be sure to check out what we found out about his tribemate, Tijuana Bradley.
