The Amazing Race 4: An Interview with Jon & Kellyby Phil Kural -- 09/03/2003
View Printable version of this article Sentimental favorites of mine, Kelly & Jon made it to the final leg of the race only to come in second place. Even though they got lost more times than they could count, bickered almost every leg, and made fun of other teams, they still managed to have a great time take the whole experience for what it was. In this interview, we get to see more of their comical nature, not to mention finding out what a frozen enema is! RNO: Wow, I finally get to ask you guys some questions. I guess what I want to know first off is: Do either of you read my articles on RealityNewsOnline or understand how much I love you two? Kelly: Yes, yes, yes! You were the only one we read because you were the only one who liked us! So, thanks! Jon: I enjoyed reading your articles in the beginning, but I have to admit I got a little jealous of your infatuation with Kelly. Kelly: But I liked it! RNO: Between saving money, the language barrier, getting directions, and following maps, what would you say was the biggest challenge to your team? Jon: You forgot one more to add to the list… keeping Kelly heavily medicated. Kelly: I don’t think that was very funny, Jon, but true. RNO: Either physical or mental challenges, which roadblock and detour did you feel were the hardest? Kelly: I’d have to say the face-first rappel. I cried when I saw that episode and so did my sisters. I was oh-so scared! Jon: Swimming under the ice in Korea was really tough physically and mentally. RNO: Do you think you were edited to make it look like you bickered too much or got lost too many times, or was that an accurate portrayal? Kelly: Hate to say it, but it was dead on. Jon: Very accurate! Kelly doesn’t shut the hell up! Kelly: Uuuhhhh… Jon is sleeping in the “I’m sorry” room tonight. RNO: It was nice to see that even though you two did make a fair amount of mistakes during the race, you still rolled with it while laughing and joking at most of your fumbles. Was part of your strategy to try and not get upset, or were the mistakes really that funny? Jon: One of the keys for me was to have a sense of humor going into the race. If you can’t laugh at yourself then who can you laugh at, besides Millie. He-he! Kelly: Jon really is a funny guy, but on the race I think it was more for my benefit. There were times (example: 27-hour train ride in India) when I was about to lose it and he would do or say the dumbest things that would just crack me up and make me forget I was upset. RNO: Did you realize how far behind you David & Jeff were, or was that the least of your worries? Jon: We knew they made a mistake by going to Sydney and it was nice to know the race was down to two teams. RNO: Do you plan on going back to any of the countries that you visited during the race to do a little more sight seeing? Kelly: I love Australia! I want to go back and explore. Jon: I think we’re gonna go back to India for our honeymoon to this all-inclusive train tour. Kelly: Not! View Printable version of this article |
