‘Marry My Dad’ Stars Won’t Be Tying the Knotby David Bloomberg -- 10/03/2003
View Printable version of this article Color me shocked. Not. The Associated Press is reporting that Don Mueller, the focus of NBC’s summer hit, Who Wants to Marry My Dad?, will not be marrying the woman he proposed to on the show, Christena Ferran. Don lives near Cincinnati. Christena lives in San Diego. Both have established lives there and apparently neither of them was willing to give that up. Don noted, “She has two kids in high school… and their dad is a very active part of their life.” Plus, she is active in charity work and rides horses there. He also added that he can’t leave the company he founded and his baby grandson – who made a very brief appearance on the show – is there. The decision was apparently a mutual one made then Don visited Christena last weekend at her home – the first time he’d gone there and only the sixth time they had seen each other since the show’s finale was taped. Now it seems to me that if you are going to go on a show that involves getting married, you ought to think out ahead of time if you’re really willing to do it. I mean, that is the name of the show, after all. So a woman from San Diego should probably think to herself, “Hmm. This guy lives in Ohio. I’m not moving to Ohio. Maybe I’d better find something else to do instead.” Apparently, that didn’t happen. (And before anybody accuses me of being sexist because I didn’t say anything about Don moving, remember that he is the focus of the show. If Christena had been the focus, I’d have instead said that same thing about Don.) No word so far on if Christena had to give up the rather large diamond ring she was given at the engagement. Also, in previous interviews, Don had indicated that he has kept in touch with several of the other women from the show. Not even a hint yet on whether he may decide to date one of these if they live a bit closer. In discussing the “break-up” (can we even call it that if they were never really together?), Don told the AP that the reason he did the show as to spend three weeks with his kids. It seems to me that this is a rather poor reason to go on a show about getting married. I’m sure NBC is thrilled to have financed his three-week vacation. Actually, NBC might not even care, considering the ratings it drew and the fact that with the reunion show long since aired, this is old news by now to most viewers anyway. Don who? But at least things are still apparently working on for Don’s kids. As you may recall, daughter Heidi will begin on NBC’s Passions later this month. Also, son Chris has moved to L.A. to also pursue modeling and acting careers. So even though nobody will be getting married, it seems everybody got what they really wanted out of the show.
