“The Tribe Did the Right Thing”: An Interview with Survivor’s Rudyby David Bloomberg -- 02/12/2004
View Printable version of this article Rudy is one of the most popular Survivor contestants ever. Anybody who has ever been to a Survivor gathering has seen how fans flock to him. But they also know he is a man of few words. Still, he answered some questions from RealityNewsOnline. RealityNewsOnline: Hello, Rudy, and thanks for taking the time to answer these questions from RealityNewsOnline! As one of the most popular Survivor contestants ever, many viewers were upset to see you go early – do you think you were voted out simply because your tribe was concerned about future challenges, or was there an ulterior motive? Rudy: I was voted out because I was the slowest in the tribe. At that stage of the game they need speed and good athletes. RNO: You drank the unboiled water and we never saw any problems – after you were voted out, did you suffer any ill effects? Rudy: No. RNO: Why did you immediately choose Rupert as an ally – had you seen enough of him on his series before you left to determine that he was honorable? Rudy: That was one of the reasons. RNO: In the first Tribal Council you said you were against voting out the winners just because they were winners, but you voted for both Tina and Ethan. Why? Rudy: Because in the early stages of the game you're looking for a reason to vote somebody off and that's reason enough. RNO: How was “Survivor: All-Stars” different from the first “Survivor” for you? Rudy: Not too much different. Putting up with the people is the survival part. RNO: Which was tougher? Rudy: Panama was tougher, more bugs. RNO: Through your career, you've been in some harsh environments. What was the toughest, and how did it compare to your experiences on “Survivor”? Rudy: Vietnam, and I was being shot at. Panama was a piece of cake compared to that. RNO: Would you have allied with Richard again if the tribes had merged together while you were still there? Rudy: Probably. RNO: Who were you most surprised to see back on the show? Rudy: Jenna. RNO: Who did you think didn't deserve to be in the All-Star game? Rudy: No comment. RNO: How has being on the show changed your life? Rudy: I was retired before I did the show, now I'm out of retirement but enjoying traveling around. RNO: Finally, I have to ask: What exactly do your friends intend to do to Jerri and Jenna? Rudy: Nothing. I thought it over and the tribe did the right thing by voting me off. I was the slowest one and holding them back. I don't have anything against anybody. RNO: Thanks again, Rudy! David Bloomberg is the Editor of RealityNewsOnline and can be reached at RNO@pobox.com.
