America’s Next Top Model 2, Episode 7: Who Wants this the Most?by Phil Kural -- 02/25/2004
View Printable version of this article Let me just state for the record that this was one of the most emotional episodes thus far. From the beginning shot up until eliminations, I was on the edge of my seat. Most of the time, it is somewhat obvious who was going home, but I honestly had no idea who was going to be eliminated this time. However, all this made for an awesome show, and who would have thought Tyra can sing – well! Anyway, if you missed what happened last week, let me fill you in. April won an acting competition and got a boost in morale. Shandi shared with the other girls that she has family issues. Camille managed to get on the judges’ nerves, yet again, but it was Catie who was given the ax. Oh, and I hope you read my interview with her, because she really let loose. Camille starts us off this week. She talks to the camera about how she escaped elimination yet again, but is actually starting to feel somewhat insecure. It’s about time – you would think the girl had no emotions. Mercedes says it’s down to six girls, with Yoanna noting that Catie leaving last week shows that the tables can turn at any time. Camille feels that she has to change somewhat, and try not to talk over people, but she is going to do her best to be herself. Good for her! Like I said last week, I despise her so much that I may just like her! Shandi is on the phone with her boyfriend, and tells him that she is wearing the dress he bought for her birthday. She tells the camera that they have been dating for almost two years, that they love each other, and that he is her best friend. Oh, looks like its Sara’s birthday. Yoanna is at the bakery buying her a cake to make her feel at home, but partly because she, herself, wants some cake too. Eh, can’t blame the girl. Everyone does the birthday thing and Sara blows out the candles. She’s 23! Sara states that she has always taken the safe route in life, but doing this competition has proved to her that she has so much more strength, and that is why she wants to win this more than any of the other girls. You know what? I really do like Sara. I still stand by all the times I’ve called her ghetto, but I think she really does want to win this thing more than most of the others. Some of the girls are now exercising, but Yoanna is sitting in the kitchen, whispering to Shandi. She tells Shandi that being a model has always been her dream, since she has been a child. She has always wanted to do this, and even dressed her Barbie dolls in different dresses and worked with making them fashionable. Okay, that may be a bit much, but whatever floats your boat! In the van, she asks April if she would rather be an actress or a model. April, very diplomatically, states that she sees them as the same. She knows that she has to raise the bar, though, if she wants to win. However, she has never been in either situation until now, so she can’t really make a decision. Yoanna isn’t sure if April just wants to win the competition so that she can say she won, or if she really wants to be a top model. She’d be pissed if April won and didn’t really want to do everything that comes along with being a model. Tyra mail! This piece of mail tells the girls to bring energy with them the next day. All of a sudden, the girls are at a dance studio. I love editing. Mercedes is happy to be there, but Shandi isn’t. They meet Tony Michaels, a choreographer. Shandi isn’t sure what is going on or why they are there. Tony tells the girls about movement and its importance to the modeling industry. Miss Shandi decides she isn’t going to worry and will just have fun. Sara is scared about her knee, which is damaged, and doesn’t want it to bother her while she dances. Tony tells all the girls to step up and dance sexy. Sara goes first and wiggles her butt. Tony doesn’t like the way her eyes were on the floor the whole time. Camille is next and it looks like she is doing the snake on the ground. Yoanna is confused about Camille. Anyway, Yoanna is up and seems to do pretty well. Shandi is up and she does REALLY well. I’m definitely diggin’ it, and so is Tony. Next, he tells them that he is the male model, and they have to dance on him. April goes first and Shandi says that she has this intimidating drive about her. Mercedes dances with Tony and does well, Shandi is great again, and Tony compliments her. Tomorrow though, they will be tested on movement, so they have to be ready. Shandi remarks that she doesn’t think of herself as sexy, and growing up she was always told she would never get married and would instead live with many cats. Just then, we see her get a package from her boyfriend, containing pictures – of cats. How appropriate. She feels loved when she gets packages from him. Sara, meanwhile, is on the phone with her mom talking about her knee. She tells the camera that it’s a four out of ten, but she has just learned to live with it. Shandi is now missing her boyfriend, and calls him. After they talk for awhile, he tells her he is going to the movies that night with some other girl that apparently they both know. Shandi gets all upset and tells him that he is pissing her off. She actually thinks the girl, who is married with a kid, will cheat on her husband. Oh, and apparently, going to the movies is something that they share together, so for him to go there with another girl is out of the question. Are you kidding me? Now, everyone knows I love Shandi, but this is a little ridiculous. Shandi then reminds herself that she is in New York, not to get mad, and to go have a good time. They hang up, and that’s that.
