American Idol 3, February 25: All Better Now

by Sting7 -- 02/26/2004
Tuesday night restored the faith in all things Idol. There was one very obvious advancee to the Top 12, and the other may be a bit of a mild surprise. The third member of the Top 3 was a surprise to everyone but me! Can Jon Peter Lewis (right) pull a mild upset and make the Top 12?

Ryan Seacrest welcomes us.

Intro the judges.

The Friends and Family of the contestants are in the red room.

Ryan introduces the contestants. All business tonight. Ryan says that there were 13 million votes cast last night. Back to normal.

Now, the recap of last night, which you can read about in detail right here.

Ryan chats briefly with some the contestants. Elizabeth is more nervous than confident. LaToya says when it’s time to do her job, she just does it. Jonah says he felt the love from Hawaii. Ryan jokes that there were more votes for Idol for the Democratic Caucus in Hawaii.

The judges unanimously pick LaToya and Leah to advance. Simon continues that LaToya was in an entirely different class than the others. Paula agrees with him, and plants a play kiss on Simon. Someone hose them down, please.

Now it’s time to for the Top 3 vote getters to sit on those Ikea-rejected stools!

LaToya London - in the Top 3!

Jonah Moananu - not in the Top 3.

Charlie Lowry - not in the Top 3.

Eric Yoder - not in the Top 3.

Elizabeth LeTendre - not in the Top 3.

Amy Adams - Top 3!

That leaves Leah LaBelle and Jon Peter Lewis. The final member of the Top 3 is… Jon Peter Lewis! Ha! I told ya! You all said he’d be smoked! Not! Jon looks as surprised as you all.

Ryan announces the highest vote-getter, with 32.3% of the vote (almost a full third! Wow.), is LaToya London! A shock to no one. She sings for us once again.

That leaves Jon and Amy. Could I possibly be right twice in a row? Is my mojo cooking at full burn now? The next person advancing is… Amy Adams. Pink hair wins again. So much for my mojo.

Next week, Group 4: Heather Piccinini, Jasmine Trias, Susan Vulaca, John Stevens, John Preator, Tiara Purifoy, the dreaded Jacuzzi girl, Lisa Wilson, and… George Huff? (Donnie Williams was disqualified, there is more on that over at Foxes on Idol.)

I can’t help but think that Leah LaBelle got ripped off, she is a sure Wildcard pick. Rumor has it that the third place finishers will automatically get a seat, as was done in Canadian Idol. That would mean Jon Peter, Matt Metzger, and Lisa Leuschner would be in automatically. I’d have no problem with that.

Next Monday, Uncut, Uncensored, and Untalented, featuring William Hung and more of those bad auditions that you love so much. Donna Reynolds will be your tour guide for that one. I’ll be back for Tuesday’s performance, and Wednesday’s results, and the announcement of the Wildcards! See ya then!
