Forever Eden: March 8, True Colorsby William Ingram -- 03/09/2004
View Printable version of this article You call me up, because you know I'll be there.” -- Cyndi Lauper, 1986 First, there is a recap of the previous episode. You can read my review of it from last week, or I can simply give you the short version: Mary … twist … begging … Craig … twist … backfire … Wallace … Liz. This episode starts with Michael returning to his cabin. He finds a green apple on his bed. He doesn’t know what to think, because the apple could be good, or it could be evil. I’m guessing it’ll be a good apple, since they had an evil apple last week. Then again, was last week’s apple actually that bad? As you may recall, Mary got the green apple and was told that it was an evil apple. Yet, when all was said and done, she was given the power to banish one man of her choice. She even had the further opportunity to change her mind and earn an exemption for herself for the next week. It turns out that she chose wrong and went home at the same time as the man. But, that didn’t really make the apple evil; it just gave Mary a set of choices with consequences. Anyway, as Michael mulls over this unexpected gift, the video phone by his bed rings. It’s Ruth England, our host. She says that this apple is a good apple. The women in the game have chosen him as the most desirable man. Michael seems quite pleased with himself. Ruth explains that the title of most desirable man comes with a champagne dinner with just the six women and a prize of eight gold coins. Unfortunately, those eight coins will come as a payment of two coins from each other man in the game. Gosh, that’s a nice way to get the other men upset with Michael, through no fault of his own. Continuing, Ruth says that, after dinner, he will have to select two of the women to accompany him the next day to a spa, where they will be pampered. Now, did I miss an episode somewhere? When we left the previous episode, the women were discussing which man was most desirable. We were left with the impression that it was a badly split decision between several of the men and that the women couldn’t agree. How did they suddenly conclude that Michael was their man? Let’s see some of the discussion. Plus, it seemed like some of the scenes that they showed in the review of last week were never aired. Or, at least, I had never seen them. But, back to the game. Michael tells everyone about his good fortune and starts making sure that the men pay up. The other men are understandably upset by this, but try to laugh it off, since they really don’t want to piss anyone else off over something that they can’t control. Someone points out that poor Wallace just arrived in the game and almost immediately has two of his four coins taken away. Later, some of the men and women are hanging out, playing billiards. Matt is doing his best to flirt with all the women, but seems to have a particular attraction for Brooke. Unfortunately, Brooke doesn’t share those feelings. She sees Matt as the typical frat boy who’s always looking to score a little booty. Matt, being drunker than a skunk, can’t really defend himself. He’s slurring his speech and can barely keep his balance. Brooke tells the camera that Matt’s kind of attitude is her number one turn-off in a man. She tells him that he’s the dog of the group. The women decide that they’ve had enough of Matt, announce that it’s time for bed, and then start to leave the room. Matt starts to follow, but Khalilah points to him and says, “Not you!” Matt really can’t take no for an answer, however, and follows them anyway. The women don’t really hit the sack and end up somewhere dissing Matt to the other guests who weren’t there. Matt, hiding in the stairwell, overhears the conversation and jumps out to confront Brooke again. They go off in private (well, as private as can be with two camera crews following them) and argue some more. Matt rants and raves and curses a bit, all the while slurring his speech. Nothing is really resolved, and we move on to the next day. Michael is shown getting ready for his date with the women. He says that he was brought up by his grandma to respect women and that he’s looking forward to getting to know each of these women. Of course, it’s not like he hasn’t spent the vast majority of the game so far just hanging out with the other players, getting to know each of them pretty well. Heck, he even shared a bed with Kassie one night. He should know them all pretty well by now. View Printable version of this article |
