Forever Eden, March 15: Twisted!

by William Ingram -- 03/16/2004
The new guy shows up and is immediately given power. But who will he choose to share that power? The players are looking over their shoulders for the latest twist that could send them out of Eden, while at the same time looking at each other as new relationships develop.

“Johnny come lately, the new kid in town.
Will she still love you, when you're not around?”

-- The Eagles, 1976

First, there is a recap of the previous episode. You can read my review of it from last week, or I can simply give you the short version: Jilted … most desirable … massage … twist … refusal to vote … quit … sacrifice … tramps.

This episode picks up right after last episode’s banishment. Neveen is overwhelmed. She literally has to be carried back from the ceremony. Along the way, Neveen weeps for Khalilah. She says that Khalilah shouldn’t have quit and that she wouldn’t have minded if she had stayed. The women head to the bar and have a few glasses of champagne.

But, all is not wine and roses. Interspersed with images of the women knocking back glasses of champagne and getting along just fine, there are scenes from the women’s secret confessionals. Neveen notes that these women did want to vote her off and that they are stupid tramps for wanting that. She reserves most of her venom for her roommate Kassie, who had previously vowed to be her bestest buddy for all time. Shawna confesses that she really did want Neveen to be out of the game. The other players also seem to be treating Neveen as an unexploded land mine that will need to be diffused before life in paradise can get back to normal. There is trouble brewing in Eden and the stage is set for a major explosion.

But not this week.

Meanwhile, back in the recreation room, Matt is up to his old tricks, getting drunk and fondling all the girls. Apparently, he thinks that sticking his hands down women’s pants and groping their butts is a cute way of flirting with them. The women are not amused and push him away. The men laugh at Matt behind his back. Jordan calls him a viper. Later, David says that Matt is one of those guys who is fun to party with, but if you don’t watch him every second, he’ll drink all your beer and (bleep) your girlfriend.

Shawna and Wallace are hooking up. They exchange long and deep kisses. David looks on wistfully. He says that Shawna is cute and all, and that he was first attracted to her, but now that she’s attached to someone else, he’ll back off. He confesses that he’s now attracted to his second choice, Liz. He finds her all alone at the bar and sits right down next to her. They have a nice view of the other guests who have decided to take a midnight dip in the pool.

They watch the others strip down, splash each other, and shriek with delight. It’s almost like a mother and father watching the neighborhood children having fun playing in the backyard. Well, except for all the nudity and drinking.

David tells Liz that he’s really a nice guy and that he prefers to get to know a woman pretty well before he gets intimate with her. In fact, he’s only slept with three women in his whole life. Liz agrees with him and says that she’s the same way.

She confesses to the camera that David is like all of her best boyfriends rolled into one. In an awkward moment, she tells him that she’d rather she rather “do it one on one.” She’s obviously referring to the group having fun playing by the pool, but the double meaning is not lost on David. They then gaze at each other meaningfully.

Meanwhile, the pool party is over and Brooke and Shawna head off to take a shower together. Jordan’s the only male near enough (or maybe sober enough) to recognize an opportunity when he hears it. He follows the women and invites himself into the shower room to provide any and all help to the women. The women don’t particularly object to his tagging along and allow him inside. Unfortunately for us and the crew members, the camera crew is not invited inside. Instead, the crew sticks a microphone up against the door.

We see close-ups of the cabin door while we hear Jordan and the girls having a pretty good time taking a three-way shower.

The next morning, during a light rain, we see the men all sitting around having breakfast. Jordan is bragging about his late night encounter with the women. The men are suitably impressed and perhaps a little jealous.

The women are also discussing last night’s threesome. Unfortunately, they see it a completely different way. Shawna confesses that she sees Jordan as her little brother. One of them points out that Jordan is just like one of the girls. Brooke tells us that she’s comfortable with Jordan because there’s just no physical attraction to him.

Ouch! I don’t think I’d want to be in the same room with Jordan while he’s watching this evening’s telecast. He’s gotta be feeling pretty darn insignificant right about now. I’m thinking that he probably regrets inviting a house full of friends over to watch the episode.
