Apprentice Runner-Up Can Chicken Out with KFC Jobby Betsy Wasser -- 04/06/04
View Printable version of this article On April 15th, Donald Trump will utter the words, "You're fired," to one last person on The Apprentice. The winner will have a year-long contract running one of Donald Trump's companies. And the runner-up? Well, up until recently, his or her prospects seemed fried. But KFC (previously known as Kentucky Fried Chicken) has just announced that they'll offer a job to the runner-up. If the second place winner doesn't chicken out, he or she will have a chance to serve for one week as the Chief Sales Officer for KFC. As CSO, the runner-up will be charged with helping KFC launch its new oven-roasted chicken line. President and Chief Concept Officer Gregg Dedrick said, "We're thrilled about the prospect of teaming one of today's newest and most talented young executives with a well-respected, American brand like KFC. This also gives the CSO one last chance to prove to Mr. Trump that he made the wrong decision." There's more than a Colonel of truth to that statement, since KFC will be able to tie their new product launch to one of the stars of a hot TV show. With the job, the runner-up will have a chance to make some big clucks – oops, I mean bucks. For just one week of work, he or she will earn $25,000. If that doesn't seem like enough, don't cry fowl. With the job comes a year's supply of KFC. As for the prestige of working as an executive for a well-known company? Well, that's just gravy. Will Amy, Bill, Kwame, or Nick have a chance to wing over to KFC to prove that they're more than just second breast – I mean, best? I see no reason thigh not. With the right candidate at the helm, KFC can slaw-ter its competition until they're oven-roasted. And for the runner-up, this is an opportunity too finger licking good to pass up.
