Apprentice 2 Contestants’ First Challenge: Yu Gi Oh Cards?

Recently, it was discovered that The Apprentice 2 has begun filming in New York City. We asked readers to keep their eyes peeled for Apprentice activity, and recently received information about a group of contestants in what appeared to be a challenge.

Specifically, RealityNewsOnline has been told that this past Tuesday, a group of contestants came into Toys R Us in Times Square and were looking for Yu Gi Oh cards. They somehow didn’t notice the rather large Yu Gi Oh section and had to ask fellow customers, but eventually found the cards.

So, this brings us to the big question: What on Earth could they be doing with Yu Gi Oh cards?!

I suppose it’s possible that they were just bored and looking for a game to play, but I think we can discard (no pun intended) that idea right off the bat. So if we presume that the cards are for a challenge, we can try to think about what that challenge might involve.

Since it seems that the show just started shooting when this occurred, we can reasonably conclude that this was the first challenge – maybe the second, at most, but I doubt it. In the first season, the initial challenge involved something very basic – the lemonade stand. So this challenge undoubtedly involved something basic as well.

Several of the writers here at RNO threw out some possible ideas. One of the most promising is that perhaps they are searching for the highest ranking or scarcest cards. At first, this seems to be an odd idea, because if you want rare cards from a trading card game, you don’t go to Toys R Us – you go to a gaming store or find some teenagers/pre-teens who play the game. However, Toys R Us was shown as a featured company to appear in The Apprentice 2 in the teaser that has been shown, so perhaps they were instructed to go there to begin with. From there, perhaps the challenge truly is a basic one – use the cards that you purchase to trade and end up with the most valuable set of cards at the end.

I have never played Yu Gi Oh, but I did play Magic: The Gathering for several years. Most of the people I played with spent far too much money to get cards, but one person didn’t have much in the way of cash. What he did have, though, was a nose for deals. He wheeled and dealed and ended up with some really great cards.

When you think about it, trading cards for a kids’ game is a pretty good equivalent to selling lemonade. It is often the first situation for a child in which they have to assess the value of an item and make sure they are getting the best deal.

The question, then, is who they will be trading with? I would hope we won’t see a bunch of adult contestants trying to outwit 10-year-olds! I could just see a Sam-like contestant trying to convince a little kid that if he gives up all his rare cards, he’ll live the American Dream. Or maybe an Omarosa-like contestant will tell a kid that she’s got the most valuable card available and trade it to him, then when he looks at it and sees it’s actually as common as dirt, she’ll claim that she never said it was rare and that he must be a racist.

OK, hopefully, there won’t be Omarosa-like or Sam-like contestants this time. But if I’m right, we may still get to see contestants haggling with kids. Who knows – if the kids come out ahead, maybe Trump will hire one of them instead!
