Amazing Race Renewed for Sixth Season, Gets Spot on Fall Lineup

by David Bloomberg -- 05/19/2004
We already knew The Amazing Race was coming back this summer. But now there is even more good news for fans of the show. It’s been renewed – and quicker than we thought. Read on for details!

Amazing Race fans, rejoice! Not only will the fifth version be on during this summer, but the show has been picked up for a sixth season already! And what makes it even better is that CBS is not waiting until next summer for that sixth season.

CBS announced its new Fall lineup today, and The Amazing Race is shown in the timeslot for Saturdays at 9/8 Central. The only downside is that Saturday is not historically a great night for reality TV, and it airs after 48 Hours Mystery, which might not be the greatest lead-in. On the plus side, CBS might not be looking for superstar ratings numbers to keep the show around, given its timeslot.

The only other reality show on the CBS Fall lineup is Survivor (of course), keeping its usual Thursday timeslot. However, CBS has several other shows in the works, such as The Will (in which a family has to compete for an inheritance), America’s Next Diva of Domesticity (a series in which people will compete in various areas of home-keeping, such as gardening, baking, sewing, etc., and then be booted based on judgment of these skills – you can apply for the show here), and quiz-show Liar. But none of these made the initial schedule.

There is no information on the CBS website on applying for the sixth Amazing Race, but readers have informed us that casting is actually over already. Hopefully, it won’t involve any more former Big Brother houseguests (since Alison and her “boyfriend” are on AR5 this summer).

Remember that Amazing Race 5 premieres Tuesday, July 6, at 9:30/8:30 Central time. And watch for more news right here for Amazing Race and all your favorite reality shows!
