For Love or Money 4, Episode 3: Boys Will Be Boys

by Sting7 -- 07/27/04
Rachel has narrowed down her field of suitors to five. The bad news is most of her five are far more interested in their checks than in her. Meanwhile, one lucky guy wins the chance to swap checks with another suitor. Maybe that’s why David and Caleb (l-r) look so grim!

Last week, Rachel the Evil sent three more men packing. She also got to find out the value of one of her suitors’ Mystery Check. She chose Zen master Mike, and was somewhat disappointed to find that his check was $250,000. Disappointed, not because of the value, but because it makes Mike’s intentions somewhat murky. What Rachel doesn’t know is that Mike has zip-zero interest in the money. He wants to win her.

For some reason.

Five gentleman remain. Let’s meet them and their checks:

  • Caleb ($1 million), Realtor, Tempe, AZ
  • Mike ($250,000) , Corporate Financial Sales, Santa Monica, CA
  • David ($1) , Sales Rep, Miami, FL
  • Morgan ($1) , Sales, Chicago, IL
  • Chris ($250,000), Fitness Professional, Tempe, AZ

NBC’s coverage of the Democratic National Convention ran over, so For Love Or Money was joined in progress, here in the Mountain Time Zone. And as we join the show, Jordan, in casual wear, tells the men that they will have to paint a portrait of Rachel, and she will go on a one-on-one date with the man whose portrait she found the most pleasing. And, the man who wins also will have the opportunity the swap Mystery Checks with anyone he chooses!

This is a big blow for Caleb. He is the only remaining million-dollar man, and he has blabbed the value of his check to the boys. Chris and Morgan eye him like sharks eyeing chum. Morgan says to us he knew a switch was bound to happen. That’s why he never worried about his paltry $1 check.

Rachel, arrayed on a couch with a red robe, says she is looking forward to this. She says it will give her some insight on how the guys view her. (Really? Do you think anyone is so bawdy as to draw a big dollar sign, like I would?) The guys get to work on their portraits. Mike’s is pretty good; he clearly has some artistic talent. He chooses a symbolic picture as opposed to a straight-up portrait. Morgan goes for the straight portrait. He shouldn’t have. Dave and Caleb admit they are not artists, and also take the creative route.

Apparently, before we get to portraits, there are dates to go on. Rachel has a group date with Caleb and Mike. They are taken to a ranch where there is archery equipment and a target set up. Mike tells us this is too sweet, he’s been participating in archery for years! Caleb says he’s never used a bow and arrow in his life! Rachel tells them that the person closest to the bull’s eye gets a one-on-one lunch with her.

Caleb takes his shot, and does a reasonable job for his first time. He’s a couple of fields away from center. Mike says to us that he had to make a quick decision -- hit the bull’s eye, or throw it! He apparently chooses to throw it, as it hits the top of the target, on the board but far from center. Caleb wins! Rachel congratulates him with a hug, and they walk off toward their lunch. Did Mike really throw it? Mike tells us that he really likes Caleb, can see them being friends once the show is over, and decided to give him a gift. Almost as if to prove his point, once Caleb and Rachel are out of sight, he grabs another arrow, takes a couple of seconds to adjust his aim, and wham!

Bull’s eye!

Caleb has to row Rachel to the other side of a pond to get to lunch. Caleb has never rowed before either, apparently, and it goes disastrously. Rachel says he was trying so hard, she couldn’t stop laughing. She actually found it endearing! So, endearing, she kisses him out of the blue! Eventually, they make to the other side (not sure if the Coast Guard was involved). Rachel says Caleb showed her a sense of humor, and that surprised her. She likes that too! She tells us that she is “completely attracted” to Caleb. They kiss a couple of times, cheeks.

Yet, she leaves him where he’s sitting to go chat with Mike. She walks. No rowing, she just walked over there. (So what was all the rowing about???) Mike has nailed about a dozen arrows on or around the bull’s eye, but she doesn’t notice. They have seat and Mike confesses that he feels something for her. Rachel tells us that the value of his check makes her wonder how sincere he is. Rachel tells Mike that she appreciates how open he is. He says she hasn’t seen the best of him yet. And they kiss. No cheeks here, tongues a-flying! Rachel tells us that the kiss was “pure chemistry.” Not sure how pure it was, but it was certainly chemical! Rachel tells us the obvious: She is hot for Mike!

Maybe she was still flustered from her kiss with Mike, but in the limo ride home, Rachel makes crucial mistake! She was prattling on about something, and accidentally called Morgan “Jordan.” You see, the guys don’t know that she’s played before, and she should have no idea who Jordan is! Mike and Caleb pick up on the boo-boo. Rachel keeps on like it was an innocent slip of the tongue, but Mike says to us that now he’s wondering if she’s playing for money as well!

Mike promptly reports the slip-up to the other guys. Morgan thinks it may have been an innocent mistake, he gets called wrong stuff all the time, but David thinks that’s too much of a coincidence. Morgan, Chris, and David are summoned for their group date.
