Big Brother 5: I Like Diane – You Do Too, Right?

by Phil Kural -- 07/28/04
For some reason the Four Horsemen (excluding Drew) all seem to really have it out for Diane. In fact, it sometimes looks like Holly and Marvin do also. Phil has come to realize that Diane is his favorite person in the house, so click here to find out why.

Hi, my name is Phil and I’m a Diane fan.

Geeze, I feel like I’m at a meeting. Anyway, several weeks have now passed by on Big Brother, and I feel like I can make some general opinions now on who I like and who I don’t. When Big Brother 3 aired, two summers ago, I fell in love with Amy. Last year, I didn’t really find one person that I really loved, although Erika was pretty close. This year, I have Diane. The only thing I didn’t understand was why everyone in the house didn’t love her! Now I have some answers as to why that might be.

Do I really need to go into how much I despise the Four Horsemen? Cowboy is a dolt, plain and simple. Jase thinks he’s the best thing since sliced bread, and we all know that’s me. Scott? I actually find him pretty entertaining, but for the most part, he’s a pretty clueless guy. Drew is probably the most stable of the group, but is allowing peer pressure to take over. Diane is one of the only people in the house who confronted them about their alliance – the one they say is just a friendship. Anybody who believes that lie deserves to be nominated and evicted. Diane is smart enough to realize that they have an alliance and that they are doing everything they can to have her eliminated, even if that includes using Marvin.

Not only that, but Diane was smart enough to get Adria/Natalie and Nokomis in order to start an alliance of their own, which now includes Will and to an extent, Karen. You have to give it to Diane for realizing what was going on and putting her own plan into action. Also, she was smart to get in the know with Drew. This way, she stayed off the block this week by flirting her a** off and making sure that she wasn’t put up when Nokomis used the Golden Veto. I’m starting to like Diane more and more every day.

What I don’t like is the way the Four Horseman, excluding Drew, talk and treat her. Scott calls her names all the time, Jase tries to act like he’s her friend and then talks about her every chance she gets, Holly goes out of her way to talk crap too. What gets me about Holly is that she says girls never give her a chance. Well, duh! You’re sleeping with the guys by day two, you act like a twit, you constantly complain about everything, and all of a sudden everyone is against you? Give me a break. I was glad when Diane didn’t give her a pity hug. She didn’t deserve one!

I’d love to see Diane make it to the end of the game. Just to see the reaction on the faces of the Four Horsemen would be enough for me! Diane has showed that she can play the game mentally. She’s smart when it comes to making alliances, she calls people out when they need to be, she doesn’t act fake to the people she doesn’t like, and, most importantly, she tells it like it is and calls it like she sees it – which is what I love about her the most. What you see is what you get with Diane. If she wins HOH this week, you can bet that Jase & Scott will be on the block, and the choice couldn’t be any better. Just to watch them start to campaign to get the other one out will show how strong their alliance really is.

So the best case scenario is this: Diane / Adria / Nokomis / Karen / Will wins HOH next week. They put up Jase & Scott on the block, and during the Veto competition, they choose another of the Four Horsemen. If one of them wins, they can still put up the other Horseman and claim a win for the Underdog Alliance! I can’t wait. I have a good feeling that things will be turning in Diane’s favor very soon. One thing is for sure – I’ll be there watching with a smile on my face when everything goes down.

So what have we learned? If you like someone who knows how to keep it real, tell it like it is, and still come off as a good game player, then Diane is route to go. If you like superficial bimbos, arrogant jerks, or metrosexual players – you would probably feel better with the Horsemen or Holly. Good luck, Diane – people out here are rooting for you and hope you hang around the house until the end!

Phil Kural is finally a college graduate! You can still reach him at pkural@temple.edu, but he’s not sure how long that address will remain his. When it changes though, you’ll be the first to know.
