The Amazing Race 5, Episode 7: How Do You Like Your Eggs?by Phil Kural -- 08/18/2004
View Printable version of this article Previously on The Amazing Race, seven teams left Egypt, where Colin & Christie had an eight-hour lead over some of the other teams. They lost that lead after an equalizer at the airport occurred. Linda & Karen were stripped of their money in the leg prior, but were able to get some money from tourists that were in the area. Luck must have been on their side, because they were able to catch up to all the other teams. Colin & Christie also had a blowout with Charla & Mirna over a taxicab. In Luxor, Marshall’s knee pains caused his team to fall behind the others. Linda & Karen ended up falling behind once again at the Roadblock, but it was Marshall & Lance that were eliminated, and Marshall claims to have been in too much pain to even finish the leg. I just think they are quitters all around. Six teams are left, whose going net? Find out now, but first, here’s who’s left:
We begin this leg of the race where we left off with the last – in Luxor, Egypt, located right off the banks of the Nile River. This city used to be known as Thebes, the capital of the old Egyptian empire. Located in Luxor, is Crocodile Island, which was the sixth Pit Stop in a race around the world. Teams arrived here for a mandatory rest period, when they can eat, sleep, and mingle with the other teams. Will Colin & Christie continue their feud with Charla & Mirna? Will Linda & Karen be able to pull themselves out of the bottom of the pack? Let’s find out! Colin & Christie are the first team to leave the Pit Stop, at 5:33 a.m. Their clue tells them to fly to Cairo, Egypt. Once there, they must find their way to Nairobi, Kenya. Once in Nairobi, they must take a charter flight to the next location, which is a mystery at this time. Christie says they are trying not to be too confident because anything can happen in the race and there is no telling when a team will go from first to last. So true, but I hope it doesn’t happen to them! At 6:01 a.m. Chip & Kim are the next to depart. Kim says they feel they can win this race because they work so well together. Chip agrees, and adds that the race is more brain than it is brawn. Right behind the parents, the twins leave the Pit Stop at 6:03 a.m. One of them voiceovers that they think they finally have a chance in the race since they are in the top tier of teams now. Colin & Christie are the first to get to the airport, and begin looking for flights. At 6:10 a.m. the Hypocrites leave the Pit Stop. Brandon says that he has confidence in the Lord to help him during the race. However, he’s not sure if it’s in the Lord’s plan for him to actually win. Hmm, I’m not sure what to say. Sometimes pictures speak louder than words, so therefore, he’s that picture of Brandon in the AC/DC shirt that I was talking about last week:
Odd how he loves the Lord so much yet, has no problem wearing a t-shirt of a band that are alleged Satanists or whatever you want to call them. Looks like it doesn’t count if he turns his back on God when someone is paying his bills! Hypocrite! It’s now 6:28 a.m. and Chmirna are leaving the Pit Stop. They have some issues opening the first clue, which would be great for an outtakes episode. Finally, Mirna just tears it to shreds, which has me in hysterics. They read where they have to go and hurry off. Mirna says that as a team, they aren’t underestimated anymore, and that threatens the other teams. However, they are having fun during the race, and that’s the most important thing. Linda & Karen are the last team to depart, at 6:33 a.m. They always make the best of every situation, as they hurry off with good attitudes. Linda says they are trying to stay upbeat, but sometimes it’s tough. The twins, parents, and Colin & Christie all get on the early flight, however, it’s delayed. This helps the other three teams catch up, and the back burner teams are happy because everyone is on the same page again. I have to admit, I feel bad for Colin & Christie – they always have a commanding lead, but get screwed because of delayed flights. So the six teams head to Cairo, where they all hop in taxis over to the new airport, in order to find a flight to Nairobi. Karen asks Linda where they are going, and Linda replies, “To Kenya, Nairobia!” Classic moment, which makes me turn the moms into Sentimental Favorites! Chmirna’s taxi driver is crazy, and passes some of the other cabs, but the twins are the first ones to the new airport, followed by Colin & Christie. As Colin is paying his driver, Chmirna’s cab arrives and the cousins go running towards the airport. Christie tries to block the door, but Charla goes under her arm, and Mirna gives Christie the good ol’ heave ho! Chmirna tell the moms how mean Colin & Christie are, while Colin & Christie bitch about Chmirna to the twins. Colin then talks to the Hypocrites and Chip & Kim, saying they should all work together and team up against Chmirna. The moms side with Chmirna, and say they are good racers, and better people than Colin & Christie. Chip notes that there are two camps: Colin Camp and Mirna Camp. Kim is just hoping that both teams knock each other out. Colin Camp finds the first trip to Kenya, which leaves in the morning. Mirna Camp fairs much better, and finds a flight that will leave at 6:30 a.m. They spy through the blinds in the ticket office to make sure Colin Camp doesn’t know where they are. However, Colin comes walking in, and Mirna tries to tell the ticket agent not to help them – they know Colin is mad, and their smiles are a way to make him even madder. I think it’s working – there is a vein in Colin’s forehead that looks like it could explode at any moment! 1 2 3 Next-->View Printable version of this article |
