Big Brother 5, August 21: The Power of the Pinky Swearby C. Brian Devinney -- 08/22/2004
View Printable version of this article In true Big Brother fashion, the beginning of Saturday’s episode means they recap the entire past week for us. But I do enjoy the fact that they keep changing the opening credits to reflect the changes in Jen-komis’s hair. It’s the third time that it’s changed and frankly it’s pretty much the only way that we can keep up with her hair colors. Now, if they would only swap out Michael’s dorky shot of him with the cowboy hat and crappy goatee then it would be another plus. Now’s the point that we recap when Will gets evicted. Of course, there’s the great musical accompaniment along with it to highlight when he sidestepped a hug from Natalie with a curt, “Sorry. Seriously.” Natalie looked like she had been poleaxed when it happened. (Just for the record, ”poleaxed” is one of my new favorite words, along with “plethora”… just wait until I use the phrase “a plethora of poleaxing” – I may wet myself when that happens). Anyway, Natalie says it doesn’t hurt her that he rejected her in that way (or so publicly… remember it was on national TV, you hillbilly half-wit), she just wants to remind us that he can never take that moment back. And frankly, Natalie, I don’t think he wants to take that moment back. Now we get a reminder of Will hugging everyone as he’s about to leave and Adria decides that she needs to be shafted on national TV as well. So as she goes to hug Will, he takes her arms and forces them down (because I think he was afraid he would get some of her evil cooties on him) and tells her that if karma is a boomerang, he’ll most likely see her sooner than later. Adria clearly has no idea what this means but she’s going to learn the full effects of it rather quickly I believe. Adria thinks that she did the right thing in taking Will out and that it took a lot of strength for her to do that because she feels she took out a major player that was flying under the radar. Of course, she’s only patting herself on the back because she’s so proud of what she did. To make matters worse, after they are doing their deep contemplative thinking about what it means for Adria to have made that decision following Will’s departure, Adria decides she needs to say how happy she was that no one else was in this position and that she took the bullet for them. The fact that she’s just so smug about her “accomplishment” makes me want to bitch slap her. Diane, however, knows that she’s glad to have stuck with Karen and Will. Marvin and Cowboy replay the departure and they know that it’s possible that those two will be out sooner than later. Diane and Drew talk about their voting choices and Drew realizes that Diane is really no longer aligned with the twins. They have no idea what the game is going to do. They keep telling themselves that they have to play the game week by week. Back in the wood bedroom, the twins are discussing Will’s departure and the meaning of the word “karma.” Now, again let me just interject here for a moment and say that 1) they still want to be treated like individuals yet they are still always hanging out together to make them seem more united and more like they are a team that needs to be destroyed. 2) They are clearly as clueless as they sound as they think “karma” has to do with “Karma Electra” and that they could hang with her and even show her a few dance moves. For the record, it’s CARMEN Electra and if they think that’s a compliment being compared to her, then we have to remind them that Ms. Electra was once married to the champion of Celebrity Mole: Yucatan, Mr. Dennis Rodman. 3) They have no idea if it’s a good thing or a bad thing which means that they clearly cannot read people and their emotions because clearly Will was pissed and why would he say something nice to them when he was clearly as pissed as he was? 4) They say it’s rare to come out of this game with a friend, yet we’ve seen it year after year after year so apparently they just don’t know what they are talking about. Damn, they are annoying me. I even like Diane more than I like them, and that’s saying something. Maybe it’s just an intellectual thing. Or maybe it’s because I feel my IQ drop ten points each time their drawl comes out of their mouth. A reminder once again that Jen-komis is the HoH and she is thrilled to have won and Diane says it’s okay that she lost because she knows that Jen-komis is more pissed about Will leaving than her so she’s more than willing to let Jen-komis do the work to oust the twins. After the competition, they are just standing around talking when Adria (or maybe it was Natalie… frankly I don’t care which one it was so I need to come up with a name for both of them… I don’t want to call them The Twins… hmmmm… Adalie? Natria? AdNat! There… we’ll call them AdNat…), anyway, AdNat says something to Marvin asking if he could go for a fourth week on the block and I scream at my TV, “Honey, if you think he’s going four for four then you are more deluded about your position in the house than you realize.” View Printable version of this article |
