“It Was All About Taking Chances”: An Interview with Big Brother 5’s Adriaby David Bloomberg -- 09/05/2004
View Printable version of this article Adria was one of the main focus points of this Big Brother season. Early on, she and sister Natalie were the twin twist, as each was in the house for some of the time while both pretended to be the same person. When Natalie came in, their alliance was overjoyed. Then Adria became HOH and things began to fall apart. Within just a few weeks, she had become the villain of the house – at least as far as fellow houseguests were concerned, and many viewers agreed. Natalie was evicted the week after Adria sent Will packing, and then Adria followed immediately. RealityNewsOnline had a chance to ask Adria a few questions after her eviction – discussing the twin twist, how she acted, and how others acted towards her. Did she think the twin twist helped or hurt her in the game? Adria said, “The twist is what got me in the game, so yes it helped me. However, after the reveal it made my target twice as big.” A good point, but is that really the reason she was voted out? Or did she and Natalie play the game in too strong a manner after Natalie came in? “It’s hard to say,” Adria told us. “We had the week of Jase’s eviction to settle in before my HOH, then it was all about taking chances with our team.” Speaking of taking chances, would she have still made the nominations she made in the way that she made them if she had known how the other houseguests would react? Adria told us, “I feel comfortable with my nominations. I learned from it and moved on to secure my team. However, Natalie was the only teammate of myself, Drew, and Diane who was committed to me or the team. Our team could have moved ahead if they were truly dedicated.” Obviously, Diane was not dedicated to that particular team, and indeed Diane’s feelings about the twins only became more negative from there. In her final week, it seemed that Adria spend more time alone and less time with the other houseguests, so we asked her what happened to cause that. “I didn’t choose to be alone. I believe the houseguests chose to ignore me because it’s easier to put people out ahead of time instead of confronting them and being mature.” Now that she is out of the house, what were her best and worst memories? Her best memory is one that is probably shared by many viewers: “Natalie walking in for the reveal.” (Indeed, that reveal helped the twins to earn a place in the Reality TV Hall of Fame.) Her worst is equally as predictable: “Natalie leaving the house.” Given that she and Natalie kept talking about how they should be viewed as separate people, how does Adria think they are alike and how are they different? “We both are really competitive and dedicated to our projects and teammates. We are different in how we deal with some circumstances. Nat s blunt and I am more candy-coating aggressive.” Finally, the question that had to be asked: How does she think Will will act towards her when she gets to the sequester house? “I think Will will be glad I was evicted, and will welcome me to sequester.” David Bloomberg is the Editor of RealityNewsOnline and can be reached at RNO@pobox.com.
