“I Was Not Afraid to Speak My Mind”: An Interview with Survivor: Vanuatu’s Mia

by David Bloomberg -- 10/05/2004
Mia was the second woman voted off of Survivor: Vanuatu, and she went out with a bang after her argument with Twila. In this interview with RealityNewsOnline, she tells us why she said Twila was “deceiving,” if John K. revealed any of his tribe’s secrets, if she wishes she’d toned it down a bit, and more!

Mia was voted out when Lisa surprisingly cast her vote in Mia’s direction. What does Mia think about this betrayal? And how did Lisa end up with the youngins to begin with? RealityNewsOnline had a chance to get answers to these questions and others!

RealityNewsOnline: Hello, Mia. Let’s start before the game: What did you do – in terms of strategy, fitness, etc. – to prepare for Survivor?

Mia: I gained about 10 pounds before starting the game, and I worked a lot... mostly running... and a lot of strength training. I spent a couple weeks in San Fran running the hills, so it helped out a lot...

RNO: What was your original plan coming into the game, and how did it change once you got there?

Mia: My original plan was to win and the way it changed was I lost.

RNO: Early on, how did Lisa, who is older, end up with the "young" alliance while Ami, who is younger, end up with the "older" alliance?

Mia: I actually approached Lisa about joining our alliance and now looking back, I wish I had approached Ami...

RNO: If Eliza had come to you and told you that she was going to vote against Dolly in the first Tribal Council, what would you have done?

Mia: Eliza did come to me and tell me she was voting for Dolly and I laughed it off, I thought she was just talking crazy... there was NO WAY she was going to get the older women's alliance against Dolly!! hahaha... laugh was on me...

RNO: Who did you expect the elder alliance to vote against, and why do you think Lisa apparently believed you weren't a target?

Mia: I knew they were going to vote against me because I was actually a "youngin" with an opinion and was not afraid to speak my mind. And as to what Lisa said about me not being a target, that is bull... I don't buy it... she had no other reason to give for putting my name down, so it was a weak statement!

RNO: In your final words, you said that Twila was "deceiving." We didn't see her deceive anybody – in fact, it seemed everybody knew exactly where she stood. What were we missing?

Mia: She was kissing Dolly's butt so bad, and never once said she would vote against her. Her strategy was very deceiving, but it worked for her.

RNO: While John was collecting information about your tribe, did he give any information on his own tribe?

Mia: Yes, he let us know that the division over there was old against young, and that if he had not won the individual immunity he would have probably been going home tonight.

RNO: Why did you end up being the main one arguing with Twila when others were also in the same group with you?

Mia: Because nobody else had balls... hahahahah....

RNO: Looking back, do you wish you had toned it down a bit?

Mia: Not one bit, I cannot tell you just how annoying that lady is!!!

RNO: What, if anything, would you do differently?

Mia: Take a more relaxed approach, and not let things get under my skin so bad... It is a game of could should woulda...

RNO: Thanks, Mia!
