Last Comic Standing 3 Cancelled Before the Reveal!by Dale Sherman -- 10/06/2004
View Printable version of this article It was with great shock today that we heard from Jay Mohr, the host and executive producer of Last Comic Standing, that NBC has cancelled the series with the airing of the seventh episode on October 5. Ending this show now means that there will be no “reveal” episode giving the announcement of who won the final four and is the Last Comic Standing of Season Three. As Jay told us in an email today, “I guess I am available for films now.” Jay has posted a text message on his official website now about the cancellation (www.jaymohr.com). He goes into detail as to how NBC had asked for a “hybrid version” of the series to go on the fall schedule, and how the producers felt it might be a bad idea to do a program so soon after the end of the second season. With ratings staying at a consistent eight million viewers – up against such shows as Big Brother and The Amazing Race on CBS – the show seemed to gain momentum in the last two outings. Still, “that didn’t stop NBC from hitting the panic button,” as Jay says in his message. Jay ended the message with the following quote: “The biggest question I have is why would you wait until the final episode to pull the plug. I feel terrible for the comics. We had a great final four with Alonzo Bodden, Rich Vos, Dave Mordal (my favorite) and John Heffron. These four comics are not involved with network business or standards and practices but it is they who will suffer the most from this terrible decision by [NBC].So, how will the fans find out who won LCS3? If one goes to the official site (http://www.nbc.com/nbc/Last_Comic_Standing_3/), you will see a banner (literally) that states the following: “Watch the Father of the Pride Marathon next Tuesday to find out who is the Last Comic Standing!” In NBC.com’s official schedule, this is exactly what the October 12 schedule contains – a three-episode-long “marathon” of Father of the Pride episodes. Evidently, from what we understand, the announcement of the winner will be made at some point during the marathon. [Editor’s Note: Well, I suppose that’s one way to get people to watch Father of the Pride…] [Dale’s Response Note: It's also one way to get people to laugh while Father of the Pride is on.] As to a possible season four of Last Comic Standing, no one seems to be saying for certain, but with the ending of LCS3 being so abrupt, NBC is probably seeing the program overall as being a dead issue. At the moment, RealityNewsOnline is trying to find out more information as to what happened to the show, what the contestants thought, and what is the future for the program.
