America’s Next Top Model 3, Episode 8: Spiders… I Mean Diamonds, Are A Girl’s Best Friend!by Phil Kural -- 11/11/2004
View Printable version of this article Last week, the girls were put to the test by some of New York’s top designers. Plus-sized Toccara struggled to break barriers, while Ann proved that she’s more than just a pretty face. After all this, though, Cassie was the one sent home. Who is going home this week? To find out, keep reading We begin this week with Tyra and her mom, sitting on a bed. This could not have been anymore scripted. Tyra tells her mom that “last night” it was between Cassie and Toccara, and Cassie went home. She goes on to say that she feels bad about sending Cassie home since she admitted to being bulimic and didn’t want help. Tyra’s mom basically tells her not to worry about it, and that Cassie is lost and needs to find herself. Tyra agrees, while her mom tells her everything will be okay. First off, did we need this? If they were really that concerned, they would have just MADE her get some help. Cassie told me in her interview that she has never had an eating disorder, and I believe her. This whole segment really wasn’t necessary. The girls are at the loft hanging out, and Toccara tells the camera that it scared her when Nole’ said there isn’t room yet for a plus-sized girl on the runway. However, she still feels she will break barriers. Eva says that the girls don’t know she has emotion and feel she is just loud. However, her guard is up and she won’t let people in. Yaya tells the camera that she’s from a different place than the other girls and hasn’t been swept up by the whole thing yet. Ann just thinks Yaya is being bitchy, especially when she disses low-carb diets. Ahh, MY Yaya…love her! There is a knock on the door and in comes Rebecca Weinberg, a fashion consultant to the stars, along with Paul Wilmot and another guy, both of whom are publicists to the stars. The guys are going to take the girls and instruct them on image, while Rebecca will look through their wardrobes to see what they have and what they should have. Yaya talks to the guys first, and tells them she’s worldly and can talk about anything. Rebecca tells Amanda that her clothes look cheap, to which Amanda tells her she is poor. Rebecca says that if that’s the case, she has to make the stuff look good. I hate Rebecca already. The guys tell Eva that she’s coming off as a diva and to show some manners. Rebecca tells Yaya that her style is too “Earth mother,” and that sometimes she needs to change and mix it up a little. Ann tells the publicists that sometimes she’s not proper, but they tell her to say things intelligently. Toccara is talking to Rebecca , who tells her that she lacks personal style. Rebecca says that Toccara’s stuff doesn’t “Wow” her. Norelle goes next with Rebecca , who tells her that her clothes are too childlike. Eva is told that her clothes have to be more different and to learn how to broaden her horizon. Amanda tells the guys she is unique and fills them in on her blindness. Nicole tells the publicists that she is different and doesn’t know much about pop culture. They tell her not to be negative and that she can work through anything. Rebecca tells Ann that her wardrobe is a little too country, a little rock and roll, and it doesn’t work. Toccara tells the guys that she’s full-figured and both feel that she can still work it out. They love her! Yaya and Toccara talk in their room about the whole thing, and Yaya says she won’t change her style. Rebecca and the fellas leave, and the girls hit a steakhouse for dinner. They are shocked that only seven girls remain. Ann says her outlook has changed and she thinks that if she keeps improving she could win. Tyra comes in and says hi, and then proceeds to take food off each girl’s plate. I love how she has to prove to them that she doesn’t have an eating disorder like the one she’s telling everyone Cassie has. Norelle says she has learned so much, and asks Tyra what has she gotten herself into? Tyra says they are learning the criticism that a model gets, and that it’s not all luxury. Tyra gives some advice to Toccara about making it, and lets her know that people expect her to try harder than the other girls. Toccara says criticism won’t break her spirit, and she’ll be 100 feet ahead of the other girls. I love her spunk! The next day the girls get some Tyra mail. Nicole reads it, but Ann and Eva tell her to act like it says something else. Nicole says they are going to Europe, and the other girls cheer, but Toccara figures out Nicole, Eva, and Ann were lying. The other four girls are not happy at all, and MY Yaya says she didn’t think it would be like high school when she signed up for this. Eva just thinks nobody in the house wants to have fun. It was pretty funny though. The Tyra mail really tells them to be ready for a 21st Century red carpet ride. The girls arrive at Century 21, a clothing store with designer clothes at a discount, and find Rebecca Weinberg waiting for them. She tells them they have 15 minutes to find something for a contest that evening, and put it together. When she blows the whistle, everyone goes running off. Ann says she’s looking for dressy and Yaya says she took her conversation with Rebecca earlier as just that – a conversation. Toccara can’t find her size and wants to blow the challenge off, while Rebecca tells the camera that Toccara just isn’t working as hard as the other girls. When time is up, the girls rush home and get ready with what they have. Eva feels bad for Toccara, but still feels she needs to step it up, while Toccara tells the camera that Eva has been one of the most optimistic girls for her. View Printable version of this article |
