Road Rules: South Pacific, Episodes 14 & 15: The Insomnia Face-Offby Jen Shrader -- 09/07/2003
View Printable version of this article Previously, Drama Queen Donell tried hard but lost the mission for the team. Everyone toasted him during a tearful good-bye dinner. Day. Outside the Winnie. Dave and Chris speculate about what their new castmember will be like. They agree it will be an African American male. Chris says he'll be heterosexual. Both are upset that this “cat” is going to swing in for the last two missions and get the handsome reward for nothing. Dave says the new guy needs to be extremely careful. Christena and Tina are having the same conversation, except when Tina asks where the guy will be from, Christena just says Newark, N.J. with little or no thought. She really can't stand Tina. I always liked Christena. To end the suspense, the Taxi of Revolving Castmembers shows up and out pops Jeremy. He's 20 and from Parma, Ohio, which, after Mike from The Real World: Back to New York cast, pretty much puts Parma on the map for reality television stars. And he's most definitely hetero, as we're about to find out. So our group gets some of the predictions right, at least. Jeremy interviews that he thinks the Road Rules kids will find him open and honest. He brings them their tattoo piece they get in exchange for booting Donell. He tells the group he just got back from a month in Europe the day before and wasn't even unpacked before he got the call to come to Tahiti. He hopes the people are open-minded and unique. Marybeth says Jeremy is a breath of fresh air. And after Donell's stinking up the Winnie, that's probably true in more ways than one. On Jeremy's first night, they all are invited to a barbecue and a party. Everyone gets drunk, especially the new guy, who's shown passed out in a lounge chair covered in sand. He asks Marybeth if her breasts are real and tells her she's a treasure. Marybeth tries hard not to laugh in his face. Tina interviews that the passed out Jeremy has picked a great way to introduce himself to the group. Like her whining and screeching for three days in the wilderness was the best way. The mission clue says the group should get plenty of sleep for the next day. So of course they stay up all night talking. They arrive at the mission site the next day and meet Sabrina and Karl, the mayors, who say there's someone to meet before the mission starts. And just like the invasion of Normandy, through the beach sand comes ..... Campus Crawl! Darrell, Kendal, Rachel, Shane and Raquel are there. Eric's missing, so Sarah, the booted castmember is there too. She plays about as big of a role here as she did last season, so don't get too excited. Jeremy says he's glad he got to the mission soon enough to take part in the yearly tradition. But it's going to be a rough one. The casts have to spend 48 hours together without sleeping. Each team gets a camera and if they catch someone from the other team with their eyes closed more than 5 seconds, the person is disqualified. Marybeth says 5 seconds is a "long blink." The teams will participate in games of memory and logic and the winner will receive a trophy and $12,000. Shane interviews that his team is still embarrassed from last year's loss to the Vegas cast (and who wouldn't be with that group?) so they want to come in, take the cash, and leave like rock stars. The first mission is Tahitian Tattoos. The teams are given paint and must decorate a male and female team member in tattoos that represent the group. A really hot looking Tahitian man with tattoos is there to give examples of his own tattoos and judge their work. The teams split up and the smack talking begins. Raquel says she's going to just flirt with the men on the opposite team and break them down. Who knew she was somehow related to Alison from Big Brother 4? Darrell says she should just get them drunk. Dave and Marybeth, meanwhile are going to be the tattoo models. Dave gets all into it and wants to shave, and Marybeth decides to go topless. Rachel, who's getting painted on the other team along with Shane, says the South Pacific group is a good group, but they don't have the same bond. Well, it's hard to bond when the Revolving Taxi keeps showing up! Finally the tattoos are revealed. Shane has a giant penis drawn on his back. And the jokes are so easy on that one I'm not even going to bother. Marybeth and Dave then reveal their secret weapon: Marybeth's big, painted guns. Everyone's shocked as she does a little dance for them. Surprise - the hot Tahitian man picks the South Pacific kids as the winners. 1 2 Next-->View Printable version of this article |
