Caesars 24/7: A Previewby Brian Towers -- 01/03/2004
View Printable version of this article There’s a new show in town – and that town is Las Vegas. New from the A&E network is Caesars 24/7, a behind-the-scenes look at the daily goings-on at world-famous Caesars Palace casino. It will air at 10 P.M. ET/PT on Mondays, starting January 10. The series promises to explore the seven deadly sins. For those of you living a purer life than I, that’s gluttony, lust, pride, anger, sloth, envy, and oh yes… greed. I bet we’ll see plenty of greed! We will be seeing stories of the high rollers and the little guys, tourists, conventioneers, newlyweds, and also the staff. I expect the show to have a similar feel to two other of A&E’s shows, Airline and Family Plots. Seven staff members will be featured in this series. They are: Joe Comastro: Joe is a Floor Supervisor who came to Vegas 30 years ago when an injury curtailed his hopes of an NFL career. He is a Pit Boss and therefore responsible for all the games and must be ever vigilant. He’s considering proposing to who he claims will be his third and final wife. Brandy Beavers: No, I am not making that name up. Fulfilling a life-long ambition, for the last three years Brandy has danced at the Shadow Bar. In her job as a “Shadow Dancer,” you don’t actually see Brandy when you are there, just her silhouette. Valentino Crespo: Valentino’s official title is the “Director of Butler Department.” There used to be over 50 complaints a week to his department but since he’s been on the job, there has NEVER been a complaint registered. Now THAT is what customer service is really about! Having worked as butler to kings and queens for thirty years, he never accepts tips or presents. He feels only three skills are required for his job – passion, dedication, and perfection. Katie Mayorga: Katie likes to tell people she has “the most unique job in Las Vegas.” She’s “The Grape Goddess,” which entails wearing a skimpy outfit and giving grapes to patrons of the swimming pool. No, I am not making this up! Jim Hogan: Once a world-class dancer, Jim plays the role of Caesar. Jim looks and sounds good. His job is to wander the premises and greet guests, pose for photos, and preside over special events. Hina Reed: Hina is the oldest of 22 children and is from Tahiti. Her moniker is the “Slots Queen” and her job involves resolving disputes and supervising over 100 employees. Chuck Esposito: Family man Chuck is known as “The Bookie” and is responsible for Caesars Palace’s sports betting. Ever since he was a child, Chuck has been fascinated by sports statistics. Hey, that sounds normal to me! The only problem with his job is that he roots for the best result for the house, meaning he is sometimes forced to root against his beloved Chicago teams! At this point you may be scratching your head and saying, “Didn’t they do this already?” And indeed there are several similarities between Caesars 24/7 and cancelled series The Casino, which aired on Fox last year. That series showed an unflattering view of Vegas, something you never associate with Caesars Palace. Here’s hoping the Caesars Palace story is a little more entertaining and a little better received. So join us every week and we’ll see if they get it “right” this time. I’ll be here with recaps of each episode for your reading pleasure! Viewing note – On premiere night (January 10th) there will be two episodes aired back to back – the second one at 11 P.M. ET/PT. And A&E repeats its shows four hours later, so the 10 P.M. episode will be re-aired at 2 A.M. Want to have a chance at winning Caesars 24/7 prizes?
