Who's the Boss? An Update on ‘My Big Fat Obnoxious Boss’

by Mel Ellis -- 01/10/2005
As you may have noticed, My Big Fat Obnoxious Boss disappeared from Fox around the holidays. Originally, the show was supposed to return next weekend. Now, however, it looks like it may never come back. Mel brings us up to date on what we know.

It looks like My Big Fat Obnoxious Boss has gone the way of the dodo and Playing It Straight. Once again, the geniuses at Fox have decided to pull a show without revealing the ending. Anyone remember John Doe? What happened there? Did we ever find out? Those, like me, who endured Playing It Straight were left to read about the final selection on the website. With actions like this, Fox is almost as bad as NBC, which cancelled Last Comic Standing 3 right before the ending (and earned a Reality TV Hall of Shame Moment for the action).

Many readers have written wondering what happened to MBFOB. Was it cancelled? On hiatus? Who was the real boss? Ivana Trump? The dart-throwing chimp? The chicken?

I went on the official website for the show. On the message board, it still gives the final episodes as being shown in the next few weeks:

16-Jan-2005 Episode 6
23-Jan-2005 Episode 7
06-Feb-2005 Episode 8
13-Feb-2005 Episode 9
20-Feb-2005 Series Finale

However, that doesn't seem to be the case. Fox pulled the show once again to run reruns of Family Guy. RealityNewsOnline has contacted one of the cast members of the show, who confirmed that the show was indeed cancelled. An article on Zap2it.com indicated that Fox has promised that those who are interested will eventually be able to see the outcome of the show, and other indications are that Obnoxious Boss may end up on DVD rather than on the air.

All I can say is, Fox has no loyalty to its audience. It's one thing to pull a show, but to pull it before the ending is shown is a terrible thing to do to the audience, especially if only to run reruns of another show.

A poster on the official website contacted Fox and was told "this show is definitely cancelled & they have no intentions of rebroadcasting it anywhere on Fox or FX. Someone from Fox did say that they would post highlights from the unaired shows on this website later on this month if there was enough demand from the fans." That means it's up to you, MBFOB'ers. You need to write, call, email, and demand that they air the unaired programs. Your clamor led to NBC at least permitting the finale of Last Comic Standing 3 to be broadcast on Comedy Central, so you know it can be done. The appropriate email address seems to be askfox@foxinc.com. If you want to do it the old fashioned way and try to bury them in paper, you can write to:

FOX Broadcasting Co.
P.O. Box 900
Beverly Hills, CA 90213

You can also try to write Fox and ask for them to release the whole show on DVD, by going to the Fox store and contacting them through that site.

How can they leave us hanging like this? Not only do we not know who the winner is, but we don't know who the real boss is. Bad form, Fox.
