Apprentice 3 Chris’ Temper Gets Him Arrested – Will It Get Him Fired Too?by Wesley Rice -- 04/12/2005
View Printable version of this article It was bound to happen, right? That mouse-trap snap temper of Chris’ was bound to get him fired. After all, he had such a short fuse, he might eventually do something terrible like scream at a cop and get arrested. There’s just no way that Trump would hire an employee who might end up in that kind of legal trouble. Right? For Trump’s sake let’s hope Chris will be fired before the final episode. Otherwise, Trump could have just such an embarrassing situation on his hands: And the next Apprentice is. . . Inmate #23807. Okay, well it’s not that bad. But 22-year-old Chris Shelton, a native of Las Vegas, Nevada, and one of the six remaining finalists on this season’s Apprentice, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge this week for disorderly conduct. Chris’ arrest followed an altercation at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tampa, Florida, in which he was allegedly asked to pay a 20 dollar cover charge before being allowed to enter. The Seminole Indian Reservation Police officers who arrested him claimed that his response to the requested cover charge became “loud and inappropriate” as he screamed profanities at them. Chris was apparently at the casino to attend the birthday party of his friend, fellow Apprentice contestant (and one of the former RNO favorites to win) John Gafford. However, while he was still in the hotel’s lobby the incident got out of hand, and he was taken into custody after causing such a scene that, according to the police report, “there were several patrons in the area who were visibly shaken by his actions.” (You see, Chris? Alex was right. Your actions do come off as physically threatening). Chris put up a fuss about paying $20, and it ended up costing him 5 ½ hours in a county sheriff’s department lockup, $250 dollars bond money, and a misdemeanor charge. Trump has not yet commented on Chris’ poor negotiating tactics, but I speculate that he will call him “a disaster” and then blame the incident on his chewing tobacco habit. It should be noted that while it seems unlikely that Chris will make it to the final two, if he does this could in fact weigh on Donald Trump’s decision. As usual, all episodes except the finale have been taped, but Trump makes his final hiring decision at the end, and it seems rather unlikely that he would hire somebody who not only showed volatility during the competition, but then managed to get himself arrested for it before the show had even finished airing. Then again, considering that Martha Stewart just got out of jail and will be doing her own version of The Apprentice next year, maybe it won’t completely kill Chris’ chances after all… Wesley is an aspiring writer and superhero from Tulsa, OK.
