First ‘Apprentice’ Winner Bill Rancic Hears “You’re Hired” Againby David Bloomberg -- 04/13/2005
View Printable version of this article Bill Rancic was the first person to hear Donald Trump say (on television, at least), “You’re hired!” That was almost a full year ago, and his contract expires on April 15. However, Bill won’t have to worry about how to pay the bills. NBC announced yesterday, and Bill himself announced in the April 17 TV Guide, that he has signed on with the Trump organization for another year. Bill has been mainly working on the Trump Tower in Chicago. His duties will include that project, but will also expand to include “strategic development of other Trump properties across the country and in Mexico,” according to the NBC press release. Bill noted in TV Guide that the Mexico project would be a “new gold club development in Cabo San Lucas.” But he will have additional duties as well – viewers saw Bill act as a replacement in the Boardroom for a couple episodes in Season 2. While he has not shown up in Season 3, Trump has confirmed that he will be back filling in for the fourth season. Both Bill and Trump had wonderful things to say about each other in a press release lovefest. Trump said, “Bill has done an incredible job in the past year working for me. He's so talented that I thought he might want to go out on his own and make millions. We're lucky to have him back for another year and I can rest assured that my Chicago project is in the best of hands.” Bill said, “I am so grateful for the opportunity that Mr. Trump has afforded me in the past year. He has truly taken me under his wing and exposed me to his distinct and incredibly successful way of doing business. It will be a privilege to spend another year with him.” He added to TV Guide, “For me it’s about learning. Watching Donald work has been great.” In case there was any doubt, Bill also told TV Guide that he would be making more this year than the $250,000 salary he received for winning – though he did not divulge how much more. Meanwhile, Season 2 winner Kelly Perdew still has plenty of time left on his contract. He has not been limited to the construction project he accepted on the finale, but is also in charge of launching Trump Ice bottled water nationwide. Good luck on that front.
