Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Inferno 2, Episode 8 – I Want My Mummy!

by Phil Kural -- 04/27/2005
The lines have been drawn. It's going to be Veronica versus Jodi in the Inferno. Or is it? Rachel (right) is determined to win the Aztec Lifeshield and save her buxom buddy. Will she pull off the win?

Previously on The Inferno 2, the Bad Ass team won the last challenge and another $10,000, bringing their bank to $50,000, while the Good Guys only have $20,000. When it was time to nominate two girls to the Inferno, the Bad Asses went for Jodi, while the Good Guys devised a plan to pick Tonya had Jamie or Shavonda been chosen, while if Jodi or Julie had been picked, the Good Guys would go for Veronica. When Jodi was picked by the Bad Asses, Jodi announced that they wanted Veronica. The Bad Asses found out what the Good Guys were up to and pounced on Jodi. Nobody came to her defense, but the match was set.

We begin this week with Veronica and Rachel still bitching about how the Good Guys cheated when Veronica was put into the Inferno. Neither of them cares, though, since they think Veronica is going to beat Jodi's ass anyway. Veronica seriously needs to get over all of this. On the beach, Jodi is telling Brad that, as long as her team is behind her, she thinks she is going to do well. Brad assures her that everyone is rooting for her, and they would be devastated if she was the one that had to go home. Jodi is confident, but Brad worries since Jodi gets flustered sometimes and buckles under the pressure.

Tonya walks in the room where everyone is seated and reads them their next mission clue. It tells them to be ready in the morning and wear their team colors and tennis shoes. Wow, that's such a descriptive clue. Moving right along, we see the teams arrive for their challenge. Dave explains what they will have to do. Basically, there are two wires that are 100 meters long. Two at a time, each person has to crawl along the wire while suspended in mid-air and make it as far up the incline as possible in two minutes. There are markers on the wire to show how far each person has gotten. Oh, and if anyone was thinking of throwing the challenge to save someone, the winner of the Aztec Lifeshield (AL) will also win a 40" Dell flat screen TV. Wow! Look at MTV stepping it up with the prizes this season! Now everyone wants to win. The team with the largest combined distance will win the challenge.

The first heat is Mike versus Abram. Mike wants to win that TV, but when Dave blows the horn, Mike realizes he's in the wrong position, and Abram ends up beating him by about five meters. We see some other matches as well, and the Bad Asses are winning after four heats. Oddly enough, Veronica has to face Jodi, which is somewhat of a preview of the Inferno. Jodi ends up winning the match, beating Veronica by about 10 meters, although Veronica says that it proves nothing. Rachel is next up and says she wants to win the AL and save Veronica – she doesn't care about the TV. Alas, she doesn't do better than Derrick, who has the longest distance for the Bad Asses right now at 30 meters.

The score is very tight when the last two competitors step up. It's CT versus Landon, and Landon is feeling the pressure, thinking that everyone is counting on him, and he doesn't want to screw up. CT says he wants that TV and is willing to do whatever it takes. The horn blows and off they go. CT looks to be in the lead at first, but Landon ends up pulling ahead. By the end of two minutes, Landon has a very big lead over CT, and it looks like the Good Guys have this one. The teams reconvene, and Dave tells them that the Good Guys have won the challenge with about 20 meters over the Bad Asses. This means the Bad Asses now have $50,000 while the Good Guys now have $30,000. The winners of the AL are Landon for the Good Guys and CT for the Bad Asses; CT beat Derrick by .2 meters. That must hurt! They rub their Dell TVs, and Dave says that it looks like it's going to be Jodi versus Veronica in the Inferno.

Fast forward to the Inferno. The teams head to the top, and Jodi and Veronica are introduced. The object of this Inferno is to mummify yourself by spinning around and wrapping yourself up until all the fabric on the stick is gone. Then you have to run, mummified, over to your flag and rip it down. Both girls look confident as Dave blows the horn for the contest to start. Veronica looks like she has the best strategy, as she wraps herself up. Jodi looks like she is getting stressed and is already flustered. While Veronica is almost done, Jodi falls and can't get up. Veronica finishes wrapping herself, trots over and rips her flag down, then starts screaming and panting like a horse in heat, while Jodi just sits there ready to cry – as usual.

The Bad Ass team decides to rub it in even further by yelling to Jodi that "Karma is a bitch" and "You picked her." I guess they are right – she did pick Veronica, but I don't understand what Karma Electra has to do with all this. Oh well. So Jodi is eliminated, and Veronica runs back to her team. Derrick says his goodbyes to Jodi, and the Good Guys all give her hugs and well wishes. Jodi walks out of the Inferno, while Veronica starts humping Rachel and tells the camera that the Good Guys aren't going to finish first in this one. She and Rachel are made for each other – both are the biggest bitches. And what's up with her "Where's Shane?" shirt. Seriously, I think they need to get over each other. Oh God, I'm getting bitter.

Next week, another aerial challenge. Mike says everyone is nervous, but Julie looks terrified, saying she is scared of heights. This might be the wrong show for you then, Julie. I guess we'll have to wait until next Monday to see how this pans out. I can hardly wait.
