The Princes of Malibu, Episode 4: Invasion of the Elvis Impersonators

by Jeffrey Clinard -- 08/09/2005
Dude, where’s my car? So begins the next adventure of Brody and Branson. This question leads them to Las Vegas, which leads them to Elvis impersonators, which of course leads to a number of blow-ups with step-dad David.

Previously, on The Princes of Malibu, Brody and Brandon once again didn’t respect David’s property by holding a drive-in movie on his lawn. He asked them to clean up the mess, then cut them off from the staff. They responded by hiring their own staff to cook and clean for them. However, to pay for it, Brody rented out David’s music studio. David declared war.

This episode begins with David wishing he had a dollar for every time Brody parked one of his cars in his spot, he’d be a rich man. Then again, he’s already rich. Fed up with it happening again, David calls a tow truck to have it removed. He spends $5000 to have it moved as far as possible.

For Brandon and Brody, it’s another typical day. They wake up at noon and wonder where the car is. Brody asks Linda where it is, but she doesn’t know. However, David was nice enough to leave a business card for the tow truck company for him. He finds out his car is on its way to Phoenix. Linda is unhappy and Brody wonders why it is being towed there. Spencer and Brody have a plan to get it back. They call up the airport to have David’s plane ready for them. They wake up Brandon and tell him what’s going on. So it’s off to Phoenix on David’s private jet, where they help themselves to the alcohol on board the plane.

Meanwhile, David is happy with the decision to tow it, and believes he has two days of peace and quiet while they retrieve it. Right. Up in the air, the alcohol leads to another brilliant idea – they’ll go to Las Vegas. Back home, David can’t find his address book. Turns out Spencer brought it with him. Ah well, no matter. They know David gets royal treatment at Caesar’s Palace, so they check in under his name. Jeremy, the casino host, is expecting David and they claim he’s coming later. They get a fabulous penthouse suite complete with servants, alcohol, and a putting green. Brody thinks it’s the best day of his life. Dinner is lobster and wine. It gets better. Celine Dion comes up and joins them. She came to see David. She might be disappointed. They claim he’s in the shower, and Spencer rushes off to turn it on. Brandon and Brody stall Celine for almost an hour before she has to leave. She asks them to tell David to visit her before the show.

Back in Malibu, David enjoys a hot tub with Linda, then a nice private dinner with her. They dance and David tells us that Linda’s nineteen years of sleeping with a record producer is about to pay off. He brings her to the studio. Linda has a recording session and asks if she sounds like Celine Dion. David says that since he wants to get laid tonight, the answer is yes.

Spencer, Brody, and Brandon hit the night spots and pick up a bunch of girls who they bring back to the penthouse. The door closes, and a caption on the screen says, “Sorry. What Happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas.” Now all they need to do is slip past all the security camera, and Jeremy. He wants them to settle up the bill and a few other items. They say David will be down in a few minutes. Unfortunately, they have David on a cell phone. He asks them if he should go to Vegas and have a good time, or pay rent, because he doesn’t think he can do both. Jeremy goes over the bill and asks for cash or credit card. They try a credit card and ask for a student discount.

On their way out, they meet a large number of Elvis impersonators. That gives Spencer an idea. It’s fully worked out by the time they get home from Phoenix. Brody tells Linda they need to borrow some of her stuff. They want to borrow a few of her dresses, some jewelry, a car, and a motorcycle. Spencer tells her to trust them. Well, apparently she does, and the trio help themselves to the contents of Linda’s “Elvis” room.

David tells us it’s a beautiful day at Casablanca. So how could it be the worst day of his life? A whole hoard of Elvis impersonators (is the plural of Elvis “Elvii”? I’m never sure about that). They’ve set up a whole exhibit featuring Linda’s stuff from the days she dated Elvis. Admission is charged. I can’t help but notice they got a corporate sponsor – McDonald’s banners are flying everywhere, and Brody is drinking from one of their cups.

Poor David is talking on the phone in his kitchen when the first of the Elvis impersonators walks through. He goes out to the lawn and finds the convention in full swing, including the Flying Elvis Skydiving Team. David goes around and insults as many of them as possible. He asks his groundskeeper Walter if he knew anything about it. He finds the event was catered by McDonalds, and that Linda is posing for photos with them. Finding an exhibit of Elvis photographs, David draws on some eyeglasses and facial hair. He tells Linda that this whole exhibit is a bad idea, but she doesn’t want to talk about it. He then confronts Brody and Brandon, and rants about all of their antics so far in the series. He says it’s the last straw.

Next time, on The Princes of Malibu, David grabs all Brandon and Brody’s stuff and holds a yard sale. Linda gets upset with him for doing it to her sons. Brandon and Brody can’t believe it either – especially when he hires a bricklayer to board up access to their rooms.
