America’s Next Top Model 5, Episode 10: The Case of The Missing Granola Bar

by Phil Kural -- 11/28/2005
A granola bar is missing. This upsets Bre, since it was hers. What does she do to retaliate? She empties all of Nicole’s (right) energy drinks! The thing is, did Nicole even do it? Why is Nik always a bystander when there is drama, and what the heck was Kim thinking when she got involved? More importantly, who is going home this week? So many questions, but the answers are inside!

Last week, on the way to London, Kim was confronted by Bre in the limo about all the alleged trash talking she does. Kim was sorry and vowed that she did nothing out of malice. Confrontations kept on coming, though, as the girls got their first dose of the paparazzi. Despite a fierce photo, the judges decided that Lisa was a bit over the top and sent her home, shocking me and many of my cohorts here at RNO! Five girls are left – and someone is going home tonight!

The girls arrive back to their hotel after Lisa’s elimination. Nik says that she was shocked Lisa was sent home, and Kim tells the camera that she thought Lisa would be in the final three ever since the beginning. Bre admits that her jaw dropped when Jayla was told she would stay over Lisa. Nik adds that it’s scary when you realize if someone as good as Lisa could be sent home, it could be anyone next time. Bre and Kim talk in a corner about making the final three, and Kim says that what happened in the limo on the way to London was blown out of proportion. She cares for the other girls and they do want to help one another. You know, I think Kim really does mean that. Bre, on the other hand, says that things are more intense in London, and everything is very confusing right now in her brain. She tells Kim that God has plans for her. Like Kim cares. Tyra mail tells the girls that tomorrow they will find out the pecking order.

In the morning, the girls meet Jason Leung, a fashion stylist. He’s going to teach the girls about posing by looking at sculptures. They get on a bus and Jason points out different sculptures in London and how they are positioned. Jayla says that she never thought to look at statues and wonders, “Why are they like that?” Everyone gets off the bus and they do some walking, until they come upon Ms. J., who is waiting for them in freeze mode, with two plates in his hand. He tells the girls that today they will be judged on statue poses and their concentration. The best pose will win a huge shopping spree. Ms. J. adds that since they will be posing like statues, they need to look like them as well. The girls all get airbrushed. Kim notes that she feels ridiculous. I love Kim.

Bre is up first, and she takes her plates and chooses a pose, as do the other girls from several clips they show us. Apparently, the plates have seeds in them, and the pigeons begin to arrive. Ms. J. does a birdcall and tries to distract the girls with a butt dance. I’m distracted, and I’m just watching it on TV! Kim says that pigeons are very dirty, as MY Nicole is totally freaking out. Bre compares pigeons to flying rats. She says that pigeons eat rats and would eat her if given the chance. Nik knows that she needs to step up on this challenge, as we see two pigeons on Kim’s head, sitting on top of one another. Jason says that Kim lacked imagination with her poses and that Jayla was lacking focus. MY Nicole isn’t happy at all. Aww, MY Nicole!

When the challenge is over, the girls sit in a van and chat. Bre says that was the oddest challenge, and then adds that MY Nicole complains about everything. MY Nicole goes on about how she hated the challenge, and Bre tells the camera that MY Nicole’s voice is too sharp and alarming, making her hair stand on end when she’s around. The girls return to Ms. J. and Jason, and Ms. J. tells them that the shopping spree is worth $15,000 and the winner can take two friends. Jason announces that the winner is… Nik! Good, she deserved it, and she looked great in the challenge. Nik is excited and is happy that she won a challenge, knowing that she was in the bottom when it came to these challenges. She’ll be taking Bre and Jayla with her.

Back at the hotel, Bre says that MY Nicole was getting on her nerves that day, and she is stressed out and wants to sleep. MY Nicole is just having fun, though, bouncing on the beds and talking. Bre says that MY Nicole is loud and inconsiderate. God forbid someone have fun around Bre. First she talks crap on Kim, now it’s MY Nicole. I really don’t care for her anymore. MY Nicole tells the camera that she knows Bre doesn’t like her, but that’s just because Bre is always grumpy, and MY Nicole is still going to have fun. Tyra mail asks if the girls ever felt like they were being framed. Kim doesn’t even want to figure out the mail.

Bre says that the girls went and got groceries earlier, and when she looked at her receipt to see if she had all her stuff, she realized that her granola bars had already been opened by someone else. Automatically, she blames MY Nicole and is pissed that someone touched her food. Since Bre is a bitter bitch, she takes MY Nicole’s energy drinks – assuming MY Nicole was the thief, mind you – and dumps them down the drain. She feels that this is too much for her to handle. Kim walks in while Bre is doing it, and Bre not only tells her not to worry about it, she tackles and holds Kim on the ground, chanting and wailing that it’s not her business, so she should go back to bed and not worry about it. Okay, I thought Lisa was crazy – Bre is out of her mind! It’s Red Bull and granola bars we are talking about here, not the lost jewels of Nigeria!

When Bre finally gets out of psycho killer mode, she sits on the bed with Kim and tells her that Kim just had to weasel her way in and find out what was going on. Kim knows Bre is being shady, and Nik says that she doesn’t want to be part of the drama and has to focus. I don’t know why Nik is always around when this stuff is going down. Kim heads to bed and says that she’ll be cordial with Bre until one of them is eliminated and they don’t have to deal with one another anymore.

In the morning, the girls head for their shopping spree to where? Well, where else would they go in London – Harrods! On the way over, Bre asks Jayla about the granola bars and then goes on to tell Jayla about how she emptied MY Nicole’s drinks. Jayla has this look on her face that says (to me, at least), “I did it!” At the hotel, MY Nicole finds out what happened and says that she doesn’t have the energy to deal with this. How ironic! Kim is looking back and is mad now that back in LA, Bre confronted her and made her apologize for saying stuff that Kim didn’t even mean. She’s sorry that she apologized. MY Nicole says that Bre is jealous of her and Kim because Kim has been doing really well recently.
