Thursday evening on Dancing with the Stars, Cheryl and Drew were tied with Stacy and Tony for first place after the individual dances, and Anna and Jerry found themselves tied for last place with Edyta and George. The couples also performed a group Viennese waltz; however, the fun and excitement are ending for another dancing duo tonight. Our fun is just beginning though, so sit back, relax, and prepare to be dazzled by some “funtastic” entertainment.
Tom and Samantha welcome us to the program. We see clips from the night before, including Len’s “flatulent” remarks. We also see Drew in the confessional. He doesn’t say much; instead, he just screams very loudly.
It’s time to review the current standings and scores after the judges’ votes:
Moving right along… tonight’s encore presentation is from Lisa and Louis. As I watch their quickstep, I’m amazed at some of their footwork. I’m afraid if I attempted it, I’d be flat on my butt.
Samantha is backstage with Edyta, George, Anna, and Jerry. We watch part of their performances from the previous evening. George says he will continue to do his best, but someone may have to take him back to the home. As for Jerry, he says that this (being in last place) is exactly how he planned it. It’s great that George and Jerry continue to have a positive attitude.
Natasha Bedingfield performs “Unwritten” for our listening pleasure. There’s nothing much to recap for you… just imagine Natasha singing and you get the picture. It’s actually a nice performance complete with wonderful back-up vocals.
We’re backstage again with Cheryl, Drew, Stacy, and Tony. After Cheryl and Drew’s performance last night, how many of you couldn’t get “Shut Up” out of your minds? Go on, admit it. We see clips of the performances that earned them perfect 10s from the judges. For the rest of the evening, I’m going to refer to 10s as goobers. (If you don’t know why, read my recap from Thursday night’s show.) As the couples are interviewed, George hands Stacy an engagement ring. He says it is real and so is his heart. What a honeydripper.
Next, the stars tell us about the physical demands of ballroom dancing. George says that his body parts scream at him. Jerry says that if it feels good, you aren’t doing it right. Stacy has to put band-aids on her toes. All of the stars are toning up and losing weight though.
It’s finally time to reveal the first two couples who will return next week. Drum roll, please.
Anna and Jerry are moving on; they are shocked and thrilled. Personally, I thought they would be eliminated tonight.
Cheryl and Drew are also advancing. As you might have guessed, they are also happy.
The judges now tell us whose performances from the night before impressed them the most. Bruno says that Stacy astounded him; her long legs could have hindered her jive, but they didn’t. Len congratulates the professionals on a job well done and then states that Lisa was his favorite. Carrie Ann chooses Anna and Jerry for their commitment and passion. I wonder where that quarter is.
Maksim’s dance students are now set to perform the jive for us. These young people are fabulous dancers. You can tell that they spend a great deal of time on their art. Who knows… maybe in 20 years, some of them will be back on the show as professional dance partners to the stars.
Samantha moves backstage to talk to the three couples that are still in limbo. Stacy explains that even though she and Tony received a goober (tee hee) from the judges, they still need the viewers’ votes. Lisa says that she and Louis have it in them to receive a goober.
Bill Medley and his daughter sing “The Time of My Life” while Cheryl and Tony dance. Tony jumps off of the stage and dances ala Johnny from Dirty Dancing. Cheryl then does Baby’s infamous dance move where she runs, jumps into Johnny’s arms, and is lifted over his head.
Does anyone else think that Bill slightly resembles Roger Waters? Feel free to discuss.
We now get a look into what the show has been like for the pros. Jonathan says that teaching a star how to dance is a nightmare. We see P’s moves on the basketball court; Ashly asks him why he can’t move like that on the dance floor. Tony explains that he gives Stacy certain looks when they are performing to tell her what to do.
Once again, we’re ready to find out who else is safe tonight. Dramatic pause, please.
Stacy and Tony will return next week. They are quite pleased; however, Lisa looks downright nervous.
After a tense and drawn out break, we learn that… Lisa and Louis are safe, which means that Edyta and George are out of the competition. They get a well-deserved standing ovation. Always the gentlemen, George shakes the judges’ hands. He tells us that his elimination means that he has been saved from a near-death experience. As you might expect, we now watch clips of Edyta and George’s time together; of course, this includes the dropping of his pants while practicing the Viennese waltz.
Tom says that while the dancing will continue to be great, there will be less laughter without George. George gives everyone props and love; Edyta says that he put his all into the competition. George then pleads for people to vote for Stacy, who he says is his future wife. As Edyta and George dance their final dance, and the other couples join them, I’m reminded of what makes this show different from other reality programs; even though people are competing against one another, most of them are simply enjoying the experience and the friendships they have developed. To them, this is far more valuable than the disco ball trophy. Pardon me; I’m all verklempt.
Only four couples remain in the competition. Tune in next week as our dancers perform two new routines and we move one step closer to the “funale.”
