Shark Infested Waters: The Real World/Road Rules Challenge: Gauntlet 2 Reunion

by Chris Jakobi -- 04/01/2006
Now that The Gauntlet 2 is over and the winners have been announced, it’s time for the reunion. If you thought that the season was lacking in backstabbing and cattiness, all you have to do is watch the reunion and you’ll get quite enough. What was Aneesa’s dirty little secret(s)? Is Kina over Cara (right) and Susie’s supposed alliance? Oh, and you need some more incentive to watch, Beth shows up!

We are welcomed to the reunion by the MTV VJ, Susie. Hmm. There are two Susies there so, that’s not going work. So the VJ Susie will now be known as Julie Chen. That’s better.

So, Julie Chen welcomes us to the Gauntlet 2 reunion. The cast members who are here are: Alton, Randy, Kina, Cara, Susie, Jodi, Derrick, Beth, Timmy, Robin, Mark, and Brad.

Julie Chen’s heart goes out to Derrick because of the final Gauntlet. Derrick says that it sucked and he fought hard. Julie Chen asks if he was on the team at the end, if they would have won or not. He says that he would have busted his ass.

She says that the Vets had bet everything on the eating contest and it looked like they were going good but… and we see a clip of what we saw fifteen minutes prior.

Julie Chen asks how the Rookies won when they had one less person. Derrick screams, “Ibis!” Mark says that he and David had the stomach flu the night before. Timmy says that the worst part was that Julie was throwing up a little, and you can’t do that so he had to eat it out of her mouth. He says by default, he is now Mormon.

Julie Chen wants to leave that so she goes into voting strategy. She says that the Rookies voted by performance while the Vets had a different strategy. We see clips of Danny, Cara, and Adam K. being voted in by their captains.

With the Veterans we see their secret ballot. Julie says she wants to get rid of Beth. Aneesa wants Syrus to volunteer himself because he fell in the mission. Derrick says he’s excited that Beth is going in the Gauntlet.

Julie Chen asks Robin why the girls are so hard on each other. Robin doesn’t have much of an answer but Beth says it was a complete and total popularity contest. She continues that the team should have known that she wasn’t going to save someone just because she’s their friend or she’s sleeping with them. Robin tells her not to go there.

Randy says this challenge was different. He says that this time the captain actually got to choose what was the best for the team. I’ll add that this was also different because there were never captains before this.

Julie Chen asks Cara if when Kina took her into the Gauntlet, it was personal or not. Cara says that she was a better competitor than Ibis. Alton brings up the alliance thing. Kina says that she never did anything. Cara tells them the she won Gauntlet 1 without alliances and Kina screeches, “Who gives a f*** about the Gauntlet 1?!” Cara doesn’t know what she has seen Ibis do and that everyone on her season was “alliances schmalliance.” Kina says that she watched Cara’s performance and “it was s***.”

Julie Chen wants to move along and says that the Vet who caused the most drama seemed to be Beth. We see Beth say that she is the last person that anyone would think to be the captain. Julie says if you’re not nice to her, she’ll screw you. We hear the famous quote: “If you f*** with me, I’m gonna f*** you harder!” Brad calls her a disease. Beth is tired of taking s***. Robin thinks if anyone can scare Beth, its Aneesa. Derrick says that she’s the meanest person he’s ever known.

Beth has a question to the team. She wants to know how they could possibly think that Aneesa was a better player than she was. Brad blames the chemistry and Beth says that he formed an alliance with the other team. He says that when she performed in her Gauntlets, it was different than during the missions. Timmy thinks she likes being the villain.

Julie Chen asks Derrick if Beth is still the meanest person he’s ever met. Derrick’s answer? “Close to.” True. He has met Kina. Beth wants to know if there is anything to back it up with. Derrick says that she looks into the camera when she says, “Hey Robin, Jodi, and Mark (look) just told me they f***ed. (look) What do you think? (look).”

Julie Chen says that history keeps repeating itself when it comes to Mark, Robin, and “that special somebody.” In Inferno 2 it was Tonya and this time it was Jodi. We see Beth’s admission to Robin (and she does indeed look at the camera). Jodi cries.

Julie Chen asks Mark if he knows who was at the center of all of this. Mark says, “Beth,” and Julie Chen says, “You!” Mark tries to dig himself out of the hole and you can see Derrick and Beth laughing in the background. Jodi says that they didn’t have a lot of closure but she says, just don’t get drunk. Derrick says now it’s him and Jodi.

Julie Chen gives the teaser and says there will be a special guest and a retirement announcement. I’m guessing its Coral or T.J. as the guest and Beth is retiring.

The next segment is on the early fights. We so Crazy Jo freak out. We see Aneesa’s ghetto rant on Cara at the Kina/Cameran Gauntlet. Danny then screams at Jodi. Kina freaks out in the bathroom.

Brad talks about Jo. He says she was out of her element plus, Mark’s birthday, she just said, “I’m out.” Jodi is asked about Danny. She just says that’s what he does. Julie Chen asks if Jodi still talks to him. She says no, but the day after he got home she heard his appendix burst and she called to see if he was okay. Cara asks if he hung up and Jodi says that no, he wondered why she was calling him, when she was just trying to be nice.

Kina is asked about her freak-out. She just wanted to be done with Tobago and the Gauntlet. Julie Chen asks Cara about Aneesa’s freak-out. Cara says after that night, Aneesa said she went crazy but everything is cool now. Susie (from Road Rules) says that drama follows Cara. Kina interjects that Cara needs lots of drama. I have no idea why Randy is with that girl.
