“You Can Trust No One”: An Interview with Survivor: Exile Island’s Courtneyby David Bloomberg -- 05/01/2006
View Printable version of this article One question that many people have wanted to ask Courtney is why on Earth she chose Bruce’s zen garden to do her yoga when she had a whole beach for it. So I asked! And even Courtney thought it was a good question. Read on to find out her answer, as well as what she has to say about many other burning issues. RealityNewsOnline: Hello, Courtney, and thanks for taking the time to answer these questions for RealityNewsOnline’s readers! First, what was your game strategy coming into “Survivor,” and how did it change as the game progressed? Courtney: To protect myself with strong alliance, have a good time, and adapt to the changing situations. RNO: You took some hits in the reward challenge in the episode before you left. Watching yourself and the others back on TV, do you understand why they voted for you in those negative categories, or do you think they were wrong to single you out that way? Courtney: It was tough out there. I had some great moments and some tough moments. I am a fiery, passionate, outspoken woman and I speak my mind. RNO: Earlier in the game, why did you choose to do your yoga in Bruce’s zen garden when you had the whole beach to choose from? Courtney: So glad you asked this. Bruce was collecting rocks and I thought it would be nice to do a “sun salutation” to put good energy in the space and I thought he built it for meditation and yoga. RNO: If one of your plans had worked and you had been in the final two against Terry or Shane, do you think you could have beaten either of them? Courtney: I think that I had a good chance to beat both of them. I worked hard for my tribe, did well in the challenges, and I had good intention behind the use of the money. RNO: As an objective Survivor viewer, what did you think of Cirie’s maneuver to oust you from the game? Courtney: She was doing all she could to protect herself. She has been carried in on a throne and didn’t want to lose that seat. RNO: As a subjective observer and the person who was sent packing, what did you think of it? Courtney: She made a mistake because I would have been loyal to her. RNO: Were you surprised to find out it was Cirie who engineered your ouster? Courtney: Yes, I was surprised because Danielle and I had an alliance and I trusted it, which is a big Survivor “no-no” and I learned the hard way. RNO: What are your thoughts on your tribemates – Terry, Cirie, Shane, Danielle, and Aras? Courtney: Terry and I are polar opposites yet I feel that we both hold the same integrity within our lives. I feel disappointed in Cirie. She did a great job disguising her devious side. Shane is a total character and I think some of his insults towards me were pretty hard-core but I think we both were just trying to deal with being in our little “slice of hell.” Danielle and I didn’t just have an alliance. We had a friendship for 30 long days and I was completely loyal to her but I forgot that you can trust no one in the game of Survivor, and this was my demise. Aras is young and has a lot to learn but he did play the game well. RNO: What do you think happened to cause your original alliance with Aras and Danielle to fold? Courtney: I think we all realized that we didn’t want to go to the final four together and we definitely had some personal conflicts on top of it all. RNO: Is there anything else you’d like to tell us about your time on Survivor? Courtney: I know that it is just a reality show, a game to win money and I served a guinea pig in this social experience but what I didn’t expect was to gain a drop of enlightenment within my life and that was a great reward at the end of the gate.
