“They Don’t Trust Themselves”: An Interview with Big Brother: All-Stars’ Nakomis

by Sandy Lamparello -- 07/21/2006
Nakomis made it all the way to the final four during Big Brother 5 but was the second houseguests evicted from All-Stars. How did this happen? What does she think about so many BB6 players being in the game? Who does she think is a dangerous player? And what has she learned about herself through her Big Brother appearances? We’ve got all that and more right here!

RealityNewsOnline: Hi Nakomis, how are you?

Nakomis: I’m doing good, how are you?

RNO: I’m fine, thanks! So what made you decide to go back to the Big Brother house?

Nakomis: Well, I love playing the game, and it’s fun, and I liked to meet all the people that I did get to meet from the other seasons.

RNO: Was it the same for you as it is for us, when we see you on TV and we think of you as being on TV, but then you’re getting to meet these people you’ve been watching and you’re living with them?

Nakomis: It really was, I had watched Season 3, and my season of course, but to meet Will and Mike Boogie and see that they really are the characters they seemed to be on TV, it was a little crazy. But they’re great guys. It was a lot of fun and really cool!

RNO: From what we saw, there seemed to be a very clear division between those who were trying to play the game hard in the first couple weeks and those who were playing more laid back, waiting for others to move. Why did you choose the second route?

Nakomis: In the BB: All-Stars, whenever you came in the house, the house was automatically split up. The was Chill Town and then BB6, then everyone who was sort of aligned with one of them. Then there was Diane, Alison, and Nakomis. We had an alliance but Alison dropped out. From the get go I wanted to start forming a really powerful alliance. My best shot was Chill Town because BB6 was so tight. Diane and I started talking to Chill Town but they don’t trust themselves, let alone anyone else. Everyone else in the house is so scared of the two powerhouse alliances and I was stuck in the middle. That led to my outser.

A lot of people know each other outside the show and keep in touch with each other. Danielle lives in L.A. and goes to every wrap party. She knows a lot of people. I don’t do that. Nobody keeps in contact with me, and I don’t know how to get in contact with anyone else. But it was cool and I had a decent run. I didn’t get voted out because people hated me, but it was because of my strategy. Even though I was the youngest one in the house, I was the one who engineered the Six-Finger Plan and everyone knew that. So that made me a target.

RNO: What was your plan coming into the game?

Nakomis: I wanted to see how things fell into place in the house, because in Season 6 James got so burnt by his alliance so I had to see how things went once I got there. I didn’t have a pre-formed plan because if I did and things were different when I got in the house then it wouldn’t work.

RNO: What do you feel you could have done differently to stay in the game?

Nakomis: Nothing. So many people were saying I was a strong player. The veto should have been used but there is no way to convince people to do that unless they are part of the powerhouse alliance. I had Erika convinced to use the veto but in the end she couldn’t stand up to the powerhouse Season 6 alliance.

RNO: Once you were nominated, why did you decide not to fight to stay in the house against Diane?

Nakomis: Diane was my friend and friendship is much more important than money to me. I’d rather come out with a friend. Yes I wanted to go, and I wanted to win, but friendship just means more. Kaysar told me I was the one he wanted out so I thought that was that. Anything I said would have been in vain because the powerhouse alliance was in charge.

RNO: Who did you feel was the most trustworthy person in the house?

Nakomis: Kaysar is the most trustworthy, because he was raised right and he’s a very religious man. There are many religious people who lie, cheat, and such, but Kaysar is a sweetheart. He’s a really good guy and he can be trusted.

RNO: What about the least?

Nakomis: Mike or Will, they tie on that.

RNO: Who, other than Diane, did you consider an ally?

Nakomis: Erika, Marcellas, and most of the floaters. If they had gotten their act together and formed an alliance they could have done something, but nobody wanted to do that. Diane and I tried but nobody wanted any part of it.

RNO: Who do you expect to win?

Nakomis: Umm, it’s really hard to say at this point. Definitely someone from Season 6, and the runner up will be Chicken George because he will fly under the radar like Cowboy did on my season. Kaysar doesn’t see that, I watched the show last night and they talked about Diane and me flying under the radar but don’t see what George is doing. Sometimes you just want to scream at them. George lets them do all kinds of silly things to him, like wrap him up in tin foil, which is the same kind of thing Cowboy did in my season, and he almost won the whole thing! Being the goofy, low-profile, dish washer is a valid strategy in the Big Brother game these days and George is playing it up very well. He’s actually a dangerous player in that way.
