“I Was Completely Winging It”: An Interview with Big Brother: All-Stars’ Georgeby David Bloomberg -- 09/01/2006
View Printable version of this article There have been a lot of theories about George as the Big Brother: All-Star season has progressed. He was clueless. He was brilliant and faking cluelessness. He had a strategy of laying low. Now that George is out of the house, he can set us straight. What was his plan? How did the others treat him? How was the slop? Read on to find out! RealityNewsOnline: That certainly was a whirlwind of action Thursday night as you went from being safe to being renominated to heading out the door. Can you describe what was going through your head during that hour? George: Total confusion. Since I have never played the Big Brother game like this I had no idea what was going to happen. At that point in the game I was just happy to make it that far. RNO: Julie Chen already asked you about whether you were sometimes confused or it was all a strategy, and you said it wasn’t strategy. So what was your plan coming into the game? George: All confusion… no plan, no strategy, no alliance no friendship… I was completely winging it right from the start. RNO: Why do you think people continued to trust Chill Town, to the point that they made it to the final four? George: Because they had such a good alliance. The two of them knew they could trust each other all the way to the end and everyone was afraid to mess with them because they would be messing with two players. RNO: Early on, did you get the feeling that the other players didn’t respect you? George: Yes. No doubt considering that I hadn’t played this type of game before. I was a newcomer where as they all had the experience in this type of setting before. RNO: How do you think their opinions of you changed as the game progressed? George: They were surprised that I had made it this far into the game considering it was just me – I was the ultimate floater. RNO: When you decided, seemingly at the last minute, to put Howie on the block as a replacement when your nomination was vetoed, what caused you to make that decision? George: Because I knew that if I didn’t nominate Howie, Erika would go. I had a shoe string alliance with Erika and I knew Howie was on the other team – and that was the only way to save Erika. RNO: Do you feel you broke your word to Howie in that situation? George: Yes I did – but keep in mind it’s just a game and there were no other alternatives. RNO: Were there any instances in which you lied during the show? George: Might have been a couple – so many conversations going on that it was really hard to keep track of everything. RNO: You almost always seemed to be pretty happy, no matter where you were. Was that an act or is that just the way you are? George: Just the way I am… RNO: As the game progressed and you continued to stick around, did you think you could win it all? George: No. I know that Janelle – with her computer brain – there would be no way I could overcome her with the knowledge she had about past Big Brothers. Also her physical ability was amazing. RNO: As you’ve mentioned here, you were the only All-Star who never played this type of Big Brother game during your own season. Was it difficult for you to adapt? George: Yes it was. Simply because when I did it, America voted people out of the house. In here – you not only vote for them but you actually vote them out of the house… so you had confrontation all the time. RNO: Why did you wear all the costumes? George: It gave me something to do – and for a short period of time I could concentrate on making some outfits rather than focusing on the game constantly. I was able to go to another place for a short period of time. RNO: How bad was it eating slop for over a month? George: It was extremely difficult – I describe it as eating cement dust. Keep in mind I lost about 20 pounds in that time. RNO: Who do you think will win? George: Janelle. RNO: Do you have anything else you’d like to say to your fans? George: Thanks for watching the Big Brother show – and I hope all the cast has kept you entertained throughout the summer and thank you very much. RNO: Thanks again, George!
