“They Got to Me Before I Got to Them”: An Interview with Big Brother: All-Stars’ Danielle

by David Bloomberg -- 09/05/2006
Danielle was the latest in a line of people who were assured by Chill Town that they were safe – only to head right out the door. Why did she trust Will and Mike? Why is Chill Town even still around? What was her strategy? Who does she think will win? Who does she think should win? Danielle tells us all this and more in her interview with RealityNewsOnline.

It may not be much consolation, and it’s something of a cliché, but Danielle was probably the best player not to have won Big Brother. With this in mind, let’s see what she had to say about her time in the game and her own ouster.

RealityNewsOnline: Hi, Danielle, and thanks for taking the time to answer these questions for RealityNewsOnline. How did you change up your strategy this time as compared to your first time in the house?

Danielle: My first time in the house, I was more under the radar towards the houseguests, but I was raw in the diary room. I relished in lying and deceiving the houseguests. I knew I had to play the game this time. I didn’t want to go out not playing hard. I did what I had to do.

RNO: The question everybody wants to know (and the one I keep having to ask evictees): Why did you trust Chill Town?

Danielle: Oh, I didn’t trust them, but you have to understand that if it wasn’t for Chill Town throwing that one veto (“Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Veto”), I would have been gone. But I used them as much as I could, and unfortunately, they got to me before I got to them.

RNO: Why are Will and Mike still in the house?

Danielle: They worked with top players such as myself and James to get them to where they are in the game. They’re Chill Town: one’s chillin’ and one’s a villain.

RNO: You did a lot of work to put together the Legion of Doom. Were you surprised at how quickly that alliance broke down?

Danielle: Actually, I don’t think it broke down quickly. We ran the house for about four weeks after Janelle put up Diane and got her evicted. We orchestrated the evictions of Kaysar, Marcellas, and Howie, and were responsible for finally breaking up season six.

RNO: How devastating was the breakdown to your strategy?

Danielle: The break-up of the Legion of Doom was completely devastating because James was my hit man. When they took him away from me, it made me a weaker player. I knew my days were numbered.

RNO: Why didn’t the so-called floaters band together sooner to fight off season six and Chill Town?

Danielle: I wasn’t a floater. I was in an alliance with Chill Town from day two. Boogie and I had a conversation in the hot tub. So I didn’t want to go after Chill Town! And we couldn’t go after season six – they kept winning HOH! And the so-called “floaters” had the power, really. They dictated who left and who stayed, because they had the votes.

RNO: Why do you believe Erika turned on you?

Danielle: I believe Erika turned on me because I believe Boogie and Will convinced her to do so to save their own butts. In her own mind she justified it by saying she couldn’t beat me in the end.

RNO: Is this something you are taking personally such that you’ll carry it with you when you leave the game, or is it something you will put behind you and say “it was strategy?”

Danielle: I will totally put it behind me and say it is strategy. I adore Erika and I hope to continue our friendship outside the house.

RNO: You told Erika you would take her to the final two. Do you believe she had a chance against you if that happened?

Danielle: No, that’s why I wanted to take her.

RNO: You played very much under the radar during BB3 but came out swinging during All-Stars, and it almost led to your eviction during week one. Had you decided to play that way before you entered the house, or was it brought on by the events of the first few days?

Danielle: I decided to play that way when I first walked in the house because I knew people saw me as a threat. I knew I was a target. I figured if I was going to go out, I wanted to go out swinging and be able to say that I had played the game. I didn’t want to look back and say I didn’t do everything I could do.

RNO: As things stood a week or so ago, what was your strategy for winning the game?

Danielle: I wanted to make sure James stayed in the house. I wanted him to be the hit man, while I was the thinker and the strategist. I was Al Capone, he was Frank Nitti.

RNO: Earlier in the game, how did you manage to soothe Marellas, who had carried his anger towards you around with him for several years now?

Danielle: As much animosity as we had from the past, when we walked back into that house, we picked up right where we left off, giggling and having fun together. There was still that little cloud in the air though. It’s a love/hate relationship with us.

RNO: Who do you think will win?

Danielle: I think Erika will win it. Who do I think deserves to win? Will.

RNO: Do you have anything else you’d like to say to your fans?

Danielle: Thank you for supporting me. I know it’s been a roller coaster ride watching me, but I hope it was great TV. I can’t wait to get home.

RNO: Thanks again, Danielle!
