Dancing with the Stars 3, September 20: Euthanasia

by Jill Jones -- 09/21/2006
Last week we had to say goodbye to Tucker Carlson, and this week we must bid adieu to another celebrity dancer. Mario Lopez (right) has been pegged by some as a front-runner, but he was one of the bottom three Tuesday night. Is he in danger now? Or will someone go home in his place?

Last night on Dancing with the Stars, our couples did either the quickstep or mambo. Edyta and Joey received two, whoa, goobers, while Vivica did a cartwheel. Tonight, another dancing duo will be eliminated… but not before we’re treated to some awesome performances and idle chitchat.

Tom and Samantha welcome us to the program, and inform us that Julio Iglesias will be entertaining us. Through a series of videos, they then summarize last evening’s program; I recommend reading our recap of it instead.

Tom also reviews the current standings:

RANKINGSTARSCORE
1 Joey 29
2 Monique 26
3 Emmitt 24
3 Vivica 24
5 Willa 23
6 Shanna 22
7 Mario 21
7 Harry 21
7 Sara 21
10 Jerry 19

Len informs us that he, Carrie Ann, and Bruno selected Edyta and Joey as the judges’ choice for the encore performance. Again, they do the quickstep to “I Got Rhythm.” The audience respond to the routine with enthusiasm and excitement. It really is a great performance.

The professionals then dance the jive to “Rebel Yell.” Even though there are 10 people dancing at the same time, everyone is in sync. It is amazing. The routine is fast-paced, sexy, and spectacular. Samantha tells us that Willa and Maksim choreographed the routine. That doesn’t seem right, but what do I know?

Samantha is also talking to some of the celebrities backstage. She asks Vivica about getting emotional after she performed last night. Apparently, Vivica didn’t want to disappoint Nick, so she was happy that she did well.

We hear from the audience members again; I get the feeling this is going to be a recurring bit. Of course, everyone has a favorite. In fact, one guy begs Shanna to have his baby. We also see some famous faces including Tisha (not Trisha) Campbell, George Lopez, and Ted Danson.

Finally, we’re going to find out the first three couples who are advancing to next week’s competition.

Sara and Tony are safe; they are understandably happy. Cheryl and Emmitt are also safe, as are Edyta and Joey. Even Tom says he isn’t surprised by that revelation.

Next, Julio is all set to perform. He’s singing “I Want to Know What Love Is” while Cheryl and Maksim perform the rumba. Their dance is sultry and romantic. I’m sure there are a lot of men and women wishing they could change places with either one of these two right now. Wow! Maksim even throws in a few shakes of the pelvis.

Samantha explains that Karina, not Willa, choreographed the jive with Maksim. That’s better.

As we go to a commercial break, we catch up with Tysonia as she continues with the Slim—Fast Dance Challenge. Tonight, we see her doing the tango with her professional partner Christian. Unfortunately, we don’t get to watch a lot of her routine, but she does tell us that she can feel the physical effects of her hard work. Christian says that next week, they will perform the waltz.

Speaking of the tango, professional dancers Claudia Velasco and Jordi Caballero perform it for us. Of course, the routine is crisp and polished. The most impressive aspect of it though is an incredible lift and drop that he does with her. It is quite impressive.

Oh, great. Tucker Carlson is back and he interviews the judges. However, the judges turn things around and ask him a few questions. Len wants to know if Tucker was disappointed when he was eliminated last week. Tucker says that it was like euthanasia… sad, but necessary.

It’s now time to discover who else is moving on in the competition.

Monique and MY Louis are returning. Yeah! Ashly and Harry will also be back. Ashly squeals with delight. I think she is still scarred by her experience last season with Master P.

The celebrities tell us about the agony of last week’s elimination ceremony. It’s very dramatic and overdone. I wouldn’t expect anything less than filler from the show.

With that out of the way, Tom and Samantha continue to let us know who is staying in the competition.

After some tense moments, we learn that Vivica and Nick are safe. They better be or she will kick the judges’ butts. Unfortunately, Willa and Maksim are in the bottom two. However, Kym and Jerry are continuing on and are thrilled. Shanna and Jesse are also in the bottom two, which means that Karina and Mario are returning next week.

The couple going home this week is… Shanna and Jesse. While I’m sad for them, I am thrilled that Maksim will be gracing our television screens for at least one more week.

Tom and Samantha rush through their goodbyes with the couple, and it completely annoys me. They spend so much time on nonsensical matters that they have no time to say farewell properly. How rude.

With that, Shanna and Jesse are out of the competition. By now, you know the routine; our dancers will return next Tuesday with all new performances and another couple will be eliminated on Wednesday. And of course, RealityNewsOnline will be here to cover all of the action, goobers, and cartwheels you can handle.
