Surviving the Early Show: Jessica’s Interview

We begin the segment on Jessica (Flica) by reliving Candice and Sundra talking about how Jessica wouldn’t leave them alone in trying to stick around. As the clips end, Jessica is laughing, but the interviewer says what the women said was pretty harsh and she thought they were Jessica’s friends. Um, she did? This is a regular host of The Early Show, but it’s like she’s new to this whole Survivor thing. She’s never seen people say harsh things about each other on the show? And really, the women were never particularly “friends” with Jessica. This interview is starting off bad.

Jessica seems a little taken aback by the question too, but rather than call the host an idiot like I essentially just did, she says she’s okay with what they said. It seemed like they were being friendly and she was being honest with them, but they couldn’t do her the same respect by being honest with her. So she was just trying to provoke them a bit to see— and she’s cut off by the interviewer so she can’t finish her thought, when the interviewer asks if she had an indication that she was getting on their nerves. All I can think is that the interviewer is getting on my nerves!

Jessica says it just came down to that day because she was fishing for them to be honest with her and tell her flat-out that they were going to vote her off – then she would have had a lot more respect for them.

The interviewer says after the reward challenge, everybody looked like one big happy family. We’re shown again the clip of Candice and Jessica kissing with peanut butter on their mouths. Again, though, I have to wonder if this interviewer has ever seen the show before. Everybody is always happy after a reward challenge win. That doesn’t mean the game falls by the wayside. Anyway, Jessica answers that the others are great at what they do – faking.

Last week (well, two weeks ago, but the interviewer seems to have forgotten that), when Cao Boi was voted off, Jessica was pretty tight with him – did she think her goose was cooked at that point? Jessica says she didn’t think that would necessarily sign the deal, but she knew her friendship with him and her ability to understand him was threatening to them because they didn’t understand him at the same level she did.

The interviewer says Jessica was surprised to have lasted as long as she did because her work ethic was a little bit different from everybody else. Jessica says yes, she had more fun than everybody else! She enjoyed being out on the coral reef and experiencing this whole new world. She’d never been to a tropical area before and really enjoyed getting out in the boat and getting out of camp. That really separated her from the other girls, because they would just “sit around and pick their armpits.” Ha!

That finally catches the interviewer’s attention as she exclaims, “What?!” She continues by asking what that’s all about, focusing on it as if it’s the most important thing Jessica said. Jessica just laughs. The interviewer decides, after wasting time on this already, that she’s not going to go there.

What was the deal with Jonathan and her? Jessica had instinctual bad feeling about him. He was very conniving and there were a few instances where he did really inappropriate things and red flags went up, and bad vibes just kept creeping out of him. She just didn’t feel comfortable around him.

The interviewer says perhaps her vibe was right, because Jonathan is their secret scene. We see him talking to Jessica as he voices over that she asked him how they were going to vote and he lied and said he didn’t know. She tells him it would be nice to know and he’s faced with a dilemma – does he do the “right thing” (he actually makes the quotes in the air) and tell her she’s going next, or does he continue to say he doesn’t know? As much as I came to like Jessica, I have to say the proper Survivor thing is to not tell her and give her a chance to turn things around.

Does Jessica think it was such a tough choice for him? She says no, he did a good job of putting one past her because he would always say one thing and do another. She was just hoping somebody could be honest with her and tell her she was going – she’d have been okay with it.

The interviewer closes out by complimenting Jessica on her dress, which she made herself (indeed, Jessica does a lot of custom sewing, and would be thrilled if you contact her if you ever need anything made – you can check out flicaflame.com for more info). And she says Jessica was very refreshing. Too bad we can’t say the same thing about the interviewer.
