“I Still Don’t Know If New York Was Bipolar Or Doing It Up for TV” – An Interview with Flavor of Love 2’s Deelishisby Phil Kural -- 11/15/2006
View Printable version of this article Of all the girls on Flavor of Love 2, I don’t think it needs to be debated that Deelishis carried herself with the most poise of the bunch. Chill and laidback, Deelishis kept her eye on what was really important in this dating competition – Flav! I had a chance to speak with Deelishis about her time on the show, and not only was she professional and courteous, but she called me right at 12:30 on the dot, the agreed-upon time, and there’s no better way to get on my good side like perfect punctuality! Here’s what Deelishis had to say: RealityNewsOnline: What was your main reason for appearing on Flavor of Love? Were you simply there for Flav or did you hope to gain some exposure from the show? Deelishis: I knew that exposure would come with doing the show, but it was never, ever my reason for doing the show. I was interested in Flav, and I was at a point in my life where I wasn’t dating anyone. I wanted to just put myself out there and see what happened. RNO: Well, what were you doing before the show? Deelishis: I’m an insurance agent. I work for State Farm! RNO: Was it your impression that most of the girls were there for the wrong reasons? Deelishis: Honestly, I don’t know. I was busy worrying about myself and I didn’t really care why the other girls were there since that was their own business. Everyone had their own agenda, but it really wasn’t my place to worry about who was there for the right and wrong reasons. I wasn’t there to judge anyone, and the only time I’d call someone out was when they were attacking me first – I never snitched on anyone for no good reason. RNO: We saw how close you became with Buckeey and Bootz. Was that a true friendship or was it one of just “everyone against New York” kind of thing? Deelishis: No, not at all. Those were genuine friendships that were made. It wasn’t about ganging up on New York or Krazy. In fact, I just got off the phone with Buckeey about a half hour ago! RNO: I guess the next question is fairly obvious. What’s the scoop with you and Flav right now? Are the two of you still working on possibly building a romantic relationship? Deelishis: Yes, we are still dating. We’re still trying to see where things are going, and I was with him last weekend at the BET Awards. Things are still good between the two of us. RNO: How did you feel at the reunion when Flav said that he would always love New York, especially considering how disrespectful she was to you – the girl Flav chose in the end? Deelishis: Actually, I felt good. I wasn’t worried that he still loves New York. It showed that he has strong character, and no matter what people say about you – if Flav loves you, then that can’t be swayed by others. I know that he didn’t love the way she treated people, myself, or the way she talked about my family, but he loves her as a person. Flav is a wonderful person and I know that at the end of the day, he would say the same about loving me. RNO: Did you ever have a chance to talk with New York since the show ended? Has she ever sincerely apologized for the personal comments she made about not only you, but your family? Deelishis: I had a chance to talk to her at the Realies, which we both attended. She did apologize, and commented to me that we are like sisters. Even though we don’t always get along, we can connect on some level. RNO: Did you allow your daughter to watch the show, and what did she think about what went on in the house? Deelishis: She was allowed to watch parts of the show. It was in moderation, and she thought probably what any kid thinks about Flav: He’s a cool guy that wears clocks on his neck and yells, “Yeah, boy!!” Ha! RNO: And what does she think of him now? Deelishis: My daughter hasn’t really had much interaction with Flav. Since we are not exclusive yet, I don’t really bring her around simply because I don’t want to confuse her. So until we get to that point, I think it’s best that she isn’t really involved in the situation. RNO: Speaking of being exclusive, though, it was recently announced in the news that Flav is expecting his seventh child by another woman that was described only as “a shorty in Vegas.” Did that have any impact on your feelings for Flav? Deelishis: Oh, I’m not going to lie – the first couple of days, I was very upset about it. I knew and understood that the whole thing happened well before season 2 was taped, and I had to accept that. It was just hard, since I kept thinking that I had something to do with it, but I didn’t. I wasn’t even around yet. I’m okay with it now and fully understand the situation. RNO: What kind of feedback have you been receiving from fans and viewers of the show? Do you enjoy the attention or do you ever regret going on the show? Deelishis: I really do enjoy the attention, but let me tell you this: privacy is taken for granted by many people. I have been getting some great feedback from fans of the show and everyone has been so nice. As for regretting going on the show – never! 1 2 Next-->View Printable version of this article |
