The Amazing Race 11: Look Who’s Back!

by Jenn Brasler -- 11/27/2006
The Powers That Be behind The Amazing Race have confirmed what has been rumored for months: the 11th edition of the show will be an all-star race. And just when you thought it was safe to watch reality TV, Rob & Amber (right), the love-‘em-or-hate-‘em team from season 7, will be back for another race. Who will be joining them? And who does Jenn want to see on the race? Read on to find out.

There have been rumblings of a possible all-star Amazing Race season, and last week the rumors were confirmed – season 11, which will air in the spring of 2007, will be an all-star season. Variety reports that the new season began filming in Miami recently, and Chip, one of season 4’s winners, reported elsewhere that he spotted a bunch of teams at the airport (he declined to name names). In fact, not many details have been leaked yet, so locations and a final list of teams are still yet to be announced. But look how well the all-star season of Survivor worked out (at least for some people) – it even produced a new reality TV couple.

Speaking of that couple, yes, Rob & Amber will be returning to the race. So far, they’re one of only two couples confirmed to be doing the show, the other being season 10’s David & Mary. This will be Romber’s fourth shot at winning a million dollars, which I’m sure won’t sit well with their competitors. And in case you just can’t wait until season 11 for more of them, they have a new reality show, Rob and Amber: Against the Odds, airing on Fox Reality in January.

Many other past teams’ names have been mentioned in conjunction with the all-star season, but so far no one else has been confirmed as a returning team. Colin & Christie from season 5, Uchenna & Joyce from season 7, and Charla & Mirna from season 5 are rumored to be making the trip again. This would pit Romber against the team that beat them in season 7, and reunite rivals Colin and Mirna. Who doesn’t think that would make for great TV?

However, some teams have reported that they haven’t been invited to return, and some of them aren’t happy about it. Chip & Kim, season 5’s winners, briefly had a video on their MySpace page blasting the producers for not asking them back. Chip stated in the video that he felt like they’d been forgotten by CBS. In addition, season 9 winners BJ & Tyler are upset about not being included. Tyler wrote on CBS’ Former Racers blog, “What would be ironic is if someone were putting together an all-star version of the race and contacted teams like Lynn & Alex and Brian & Greg, but did not contact us, the most popular and amazing team of all time, about it.” It seems someone is a little full of himself.

You will most likely be happy to know that season 6’s annoying Jonathan and Victoria also will not be returning. They recently had a baby, so even if they were asked to come back and declined, I wouldn’t be surprised. At least we won’t have any more awkward moments where Phil tries to figure out what to do with a crying Victoria.

I’ve been asked which teams I would like to see in an all-star season, so here are my picks:

  • Kevin & Drew (season 1)
  • Rob & Brennan (season 1)
  • Joe & Bill (season 1)
  • Oswald & Danny (season 2)
  • Ken & Gerard (season 3)
  • Jill & John Vito (season 3)
  • Al & Jon (season 4)
  • Chip & Kim (season 5)
  • Colin & Christie (season 5)
  • Jon & Kris (season 6)
  • Uchenna & Joyce (season 7)
  • Dave & Lori (season 9)
  • Dustin & Kandice (season 10)

I have to have Kevin & Drew; they’re one of my all-time favorite teams. Rob & Brennan were the first winners, and Joe & Bill were the first (and possibly best) “villains,” so they have to be in there. I love Oswald & Danny, Ken & Gerard, Jill & John Vito, Al & Jon, and Chip & Kim and wouldn’t have it any other way. I’m not a fan of Colin or Christie, but they’re arguably the best racers in the history of the race, so what would an all-star season be without them?

Jon & Kris, Uchenna & Joyce, and Dave & Lori are personal favorites, and Dustin & Kandice have been racing so well this season that I just want to see them again. There’s really no one I’d like to see from season 8, except the Gaghans, but as a four-person team, they wouldn’t fit in with this. If I could throw in a wildcard team, I’d choose Ryan & Chuck from season 7, my favorite first-outs.
