Surviving the Early Show: Candice’s Interview

by David Bloomberg -- 12/01/2006
After being sent packing Thursday night, Candice from Survivor: Cook Islands showed up on The Early Show Friday morning. What did she have to say for herself? What caused her to blush and stumble over her words? Did we get any insight? Read on to find out!

Candice was voted out of Survivor Thursday night, so she’s on The Early Show Friday morning. The host introduces the segment by saying that once Jonathan flipped back last week, Candice knew she was going – but she wasn’t going down without a fight. And we’re treated to a portion of her trying to stir things up after the Raros had been blown off for dinner.

As we cut back to the studio, the host notes that Candice was still smiling even as she had her torch snuffed. She says yes, it was a great experience and she is a huge fan of the show, never having missed an episode. She was on cloud nine to be out there as long as she was.

The host notes that in the clip we just saw, she was fighting for her life. She used everything in her arsenal. At that point, she says, she had done all the rational things she could do, but everybody said no so she figured she’d go down swinging and maybe bring Jonathan down before her.

The host says it at least looked like there was some discussion of voting off Jonathan, because he does drive everybody nuts. Candice actually defends him, saying he has a loud personality but is a great guy and a fun person. He played the game just as hard and he wanted to win.

If she had it to do over again, would she have mutinied? She says a lot of people ask her that (I bet!) and she has to say that knowing what she knew, at the time, in the moment, yes. She thought Becky and Yul were very smart and wouldn’t want to take her to the end, so she felt she could get further by switching.

Are she and Adam still an item? Were they an item? She says that’s a good question. They are not at all an item. She knew she could trust him out there and to have somebody you can trust out there… She fades out as a clip plays of them snuggling up awfully close and the host says it looked like Adam was comforting her. She is obviously embarrassed and a bit speechless.

The host says she may be one of the smartest people who’s ever played; she’s going off to medical school. And here she is stumbling over her words. She says yes, she’s blushing. They don’t give her a break, though, as they next show the goodbye make-out between her and Adam.

However, the host moves on and asks about Exile Island. She says one out of every six nights on Survivor, she was on Exile Island.

And with that, we’re cut off. No secret scene. And, frankly, not a very enlightening interview. Luckily, however, I spoke to Candice after she did the Early Show and got much longer answers out of her. You can click here to read it right now!
