The Amazing Race 10 Finale: We Lived in Paris for Two Years!

by Jenn Brasler -- 12/11/2006
Well, the Guidos lived in Paris for two years, but none of the teams in this season finale did, so they don’t have that advantage when the race takes them to the City of Lights. But what advantages do they have? Can EZ Pass win you a million dollars? What happens if you can’t convince a cab driver to take you somewhere? And when it comes down to it, which of the three remaining teams can make it to the finish line first?

Previously on The Entire Season: Uh… the entire season. Long story short, nine teams were eliminated and three are left:

Rob & Kimberly - Dating/She has the ability to shriek in a voice that only dogs can hear

Lyn & Karlyn (Team Dublyn) - Friends/First two-woman team to make it to the final three

Tyler & James (Team Zoolander) - Models/recovering drug addicts/A two-man team in the final three? What a surprise!

As I enjoy the Spanish music, Phil greets us from Barcelona. Rob & Kimberly are the first to leave at 11:09 p.m. Their clue tells them that there’s a church in Barcelona that’s been under construction for 124 years (insert your own joke about unions) and they need to find it. It happens to be called Sagrada Familia, but they don’t know that. Also, it’s gorgeous. After they find the church, they have to search the park behind it.

Rob interviews that being in the final three is an amazing accomplishment. They ask someone about the church and learn its name. Kimberly says that they have to trust each other and worth together to win the race. In the cab, Rob says that they’re in the lead now, but that can quickly change, as there’s always an urgency to keep the lead.

As Rob & Kimberly reach the church, Dublyn leave. Lyn interviews that it’s pretty impressive for them to be in the final three. Karlyn wants to win for her daughter and for Lyn’s family because their lives will change. They also find someone who recognizes the church. Lyn interviews that they’ve already made history by being the first female team in the final three; now they need to make history again by winning. Dublyn grab a taxi.

Rob & Kimberly search through a park, but quickly realize it’s the wrong one. Zoolander leave, noting that they’re physically the strongest and shouldn’t be doubted. They also get some help from a local and head to the church. Rob & Kimberly finally find the clue box, which contains a photo of the Eiffel Tower. Yep, the teams are headed to Paris, site of many adventures in the first season of the race. Rob & Kimberly head to the airport and smooch in the cab.

Dublyn get to the church, followed quickly by Zoolander. As Rob & Kimberly arrive at the airport, the other two teams search the park. Zoolander find the clue first and take off. Dublyn is at the wrong park, so that’s a problem.

At the airport, Rob & Kimberly discover that they’ve can’t get tickets until 4 a.m., which is three hours away. When Zoolander arrive, they see that there’s a flight to Paris at 6 a.m., but they’re also told they can’t get tickets until 4 a.m. James wants to get on the Internet to get tickets, but Tyler reminds him that you have to do that 24 hours in advance. The guys come across Rob & Kimberly and note that Dublyn are MIA. James again suggests using the Internet and Tyler again shoots him down. Remember this for later.

Dublyn finally come across the clue box, then head to the airport. There, the other two teams are sleeping on the floor. That doesn’t look comfortable. Dublyn check out the flights and see that there are only two direct ones, one at 6 a.m. and one at 7:25 a.m. They wander around and find the other teams, noting that as usual, they’ve caught up.

At 4 a.m. (and how much would it suck to have to go to work at 4 a.m.?), Rob & Kimberly are first in line to buy tickets. Zoolander are nearby, dealing with another agent. Kimberly & Rob get tickets on the 6 a.m. flight, but Zoolander’s agent gives them the news that there’s only one seat left. Rob & Kimberly can barely contain their glee. Zoolander are devastated.

Dublyn head to the Iberia counter for the 7:25 flight while Zoolander head to Air France for a 7:05 flight. That counter doesn’t open until 5 a.m., which gives Zoolander some time to snipe at each other. See, James is upset that they didn’t use the Internet, and Tyler is upset that he didn’t speak up about using the Internet. Let’s go to the tape. Yep, James did say something. Sorry, Tyler. He sarcastically notes that James didn’t say it very loudly. James says he’s mad and Tyler tells him not to get mad at him. “Whatever, dude,” James replies, which is what I would have to go with, too.

Over at Iberia, Dublyn get tickets for a flight that arrives at 9:05 in Paris, but at Orly, not Charles de Gaulle, where Rob & Kimberly’s flight lands. However, Orly is closer to the Eiffel Tower, so that may be to their advantage. At Air France, Zoolander get a 7:05 flight that arrives at 9 a.m. They’re about an hour and five minutes behind Rob & Kimberly, but only five minutes ahead of Dublyn, who will be closer to the Eiffel Tower. That’s pretty tight.

Rob & Kimberly’s flight takes off, followed by Zoolander, who hope Dublyn don’t get there before them. Everyone flies to Paris as Phil tells us that their next clue is on the third floor of the Eiffel Tower. As they’re getting off their plane, Kimberly & Rob reveal that they’ve learned it’s faster to take a train to the Eiffel Tower, so they do so. When Zoolander arrive, they ask about transportation and are encouraged to take the train to avoid traffic. Unfortunately for both teams, Rob & Kimberly are forced to wait for their train to leave and Zoolander have to wait in line.

Dublyn arrive shortly afterwards and are told to take a taxi to the Eiffel Tower. Rob & Kimberly and Zoolander take the train. Dublyn praise their cab driver, whom Karlyn thinks can sense the importance “oozing” from them. Cab driver: “Qu’est que c’est ‘oozing’?” Zoolander and Rob & Kimberly get off their trains, but it’s Dublyn who make it to the Eiffel Tower first. Rob & Kimberly are next and notice Dublyn’s bags outside.

On the third floor, Dublyn and Kimberly & Rob find a clue sending them to the city of Caen, where they have to find an airport. Dublyn get taxis and praise themselves for thinking smart and going to Orly. You didn’t think smart. You lucked out. Rob & Kimberly get directions and take off on foot for the train station. Zoolander get to the Eiffel Tower as well and get their clue.
